James groaned as he leaned up against the hallway wall. Blood oozed from the wound. He was in too much pain to do anything. Kayla laid unconscious on the floor next to him. He watched her as she breathed soundly. He couldn't get over her new look. Silvery hair laid out on the floor and over her shoulders. Thick black streaks ran the length of her hair in spots. She was unlike anything he had ever seen in his life and he had lived a long and crazy life.
He wondered what would happen to them know. That is if he didn't bleed out first. He tried standing up but only managed to get halfway up before he fell back against the wall. Each of his nerves flared up in pain each time he tried to make a move. Never in his life had he hurt like this, not from one stupid wound. Somehow Joanus' sword seemed to fry every bit of his body.
A soft sound brought James away from his thoughts. He glanced over at Kayla to see her stirring awake. Slowly her eyes opened, revealing her bright golden eyes. James' breath caught in his throat. He realized just how mystical and foreign she looked to him. Something inside of him made him wonder if she was some sort of goddess. Her fair skin was flawless and her lips were a perfect shade of pink. She seemed even more radiant than she did before. He didn't even know it was possible. Even though flecks of blood dotted her face and hair, it made her seem even that more alluring.
Kayla blinked slowly trying to break through the foggy haze. She wondered briefly if she were dreaming. The sight and smell of blood suddenly pulled her wide awake. James' shirt was soaked through with blood. A large streak of blood stained the wall where James had been leaning against.
Panic stricken she rushed to James. "I'm so sorry James." It took all she had to choke bag a sob. Delicately she helped James pull off his shirt so she could inspect his wound. That was when there was a knock at the door. Both James and Kayla froze as they watched the door open. A head popped in. Dark red curls framed a pale chubby face. The girl's bright green eyes went wide as she found James bleeding on the floor.
"Oh dear God. What the hell happened here? Kayla don't tell me this is one of your odd fetishes. He's going to bleed to death if we don't get him to a hospital!" The young woman then turned back to Kayla. One eyebrow rose slowly. "Nice wig," she commented. "It's not Halloween yet you know. Or is this part of your perverse play?"
"Shut up and help me get him up!" Kayla was in no mood for her friends mood. She had almost seen James killed. "Ashley, grab his arm," she instructed. They managed to get him up on his feet and to the bathroom. James had to resist the urge to vomit. His head spun in harsh agony. The room tilted this way and that. Try as he might he couldn't keep from passing out.
James woke up to find himself in his bed with a cool rag draped across his forehead. He found Kayla half laying on the bed, asleep, next to him. His shoulder was bandaged up, but the pain still persisted. He wondered how long he was out for. It was already dark outside and he was unsure how long everything lasted. More than anything he wanted to know what happened and why. That man Joanus had come to take Kayla way from him. That man knew what James was too. Maybe he was taking her away because of who he was. Somehow, he wasn't sure that was the case. Joanus had been surprised to find James there. Surely, he wasn't expected.
With a sigh James sat up. Kayla was passed out next to him. He wondered if he should move her or just let her be. She seemed to be fine where she was and he liked her being close to him. He felt a strange comfort by her presence. It had been far too long since any woman was close to him like this. Since he left his home he had plenty of women through themselves at him, but that was not the attention he craved. He wanted more than just some floozy he could have whenever he wanted. What he craved was far deeper and much more dangerous. For the last time he dared loving somebody, it ended up in disaster. James wondered if the same would happen to Kayla.
His world would come to an end if anything ever happened to her. He didn't know her as well as he had thought, but it didn't change how he felt about her. Kayla filled the empty void that was cut out years and years ago. His vicious past was healed over by her love. He wondered how anybody could be so perfect. They would have to be out of this world. James smiled at that thought. She probably was. There was no way she was human, and her heart was far to pure to be anything close to demonic. She must have been sent from the heavens, he thought, for nobody was as perfect as she.
