It was early morning and Kayla was in a hurry to leave the house. She had started up at the community college in the town hoping to fit in. Today she had an appointment at the school and she was running late. She yelled to James that his breakfast was on the stove hoping he heard her. Who knew if he was still sleeping or not? She yelled goodbye and ran out the door.
James rolled over in his bed and watched her, from the window, run down the driveway and up the street. She looked wonderful in the pair of faded denim jeans. They seemed to hug her bottom perfectly. Memories of the night before made him groan in need. The thought of being with her excited him in more than one way.
He could only imagine how it would feel to have her bare skin pressed up against him; the feel of her soft skin under his hands. The small sampling of her last night did not do anything to quench his thirst for her. Only a week had passed by and he felt more attracted to her than he had with anybody else. It was hard to admit, but he was slowing starting to fall for her. Everything from her gorgeous smile, to the perfect shape of her body, to her wonderful and loving personality drew him in to her.
His daydreams were interrupted by the loud grumbling of his stomach; he was starved. Kayla had shouted to him that his breakfast was on the stove.
James turned the stove off and grabbed the skillet which had some eggs and bacon left in it. His heart fluttered a bit. She had made him breakfast. For some reason it made him happy. A simple kind act touched him deep inside. Never in his life had eggs and bacon made him feel so good inside. James laughed then shoved his mouth full of food.
It was around noon when Kayla returned. She slammed the door behind her and she dropped her bag at the door. With a groan she walked down the hall into the living room. This school stuff was surely annoying, but it had to be worth it to live a normal life. Right? Never in her life did she think she would have to do so much talking just to learn a few new things.
She found James standing in the kitchen with his arms crossed over his chest frowning down at what looked to be two half made sandwiches. Curiosity won her over. “Are you having a staring contest with your lunch?” she asked questioning his look. She stood behind him and placed her chin on his shoulder watching the two half made sandwiches for any sign of movement. Of course they didn’t move.
James snorted a laugh. “I would have lost that a long time ago,” he informed her. “Simple sandwich making isn’t my forte.”
“So you are pondering what to put on said pieces of bread?” she asked him.
James nodded. “I wanted to make you lunch.”
“I am hungry,” she told him. Her breath on his neck made chills race up and down his spine. He was hungry too, but not for food. Somehow, she seemed to read his mind. Her soft lips traced his neck down his shoulder. She certainly seemed hungry for another taste of him, and James was more than willing to serve and fill her needs.
With the sandwiches forgotten James turned to Kayla and pulled her close to him. He crushed his lips against hers. James growled as he turned to attacking her neck with ravaging kisses. Kayla was amazed at his aggressiveness. He had never seemed to be the sort of man to take control. She always seen him as one to follow and never lead.
She had not seen this side of him; his wild and untamed nature. There was something so dark about him. He seemed to be shrouded in some sort of mysterious cloud. Somehow Kayla knew that there was more to James than he let himself show and now she was slowly starting to unlock that hidden part of him.
James backed her against the wall as he continued frisking her with hot kisses. She was sure her heart was going to pound right out of her chest. “We shouldn’t do this,” he told her as he nibbled on her neck. “I’m not right for you.” Even as he spoke these true words he couldn’t hold himself back. The scent of her skin made him crazy and the sound of her blood rushing through her veins made him wild.
“But I want you,” she begged. She grabbed his hands and placed them on her breast. “I don’t want you to stop.”
She wouldn’t want him if she really knew what he was. She was just normal human woman with normal needs. And he was the man many humans would fear. “I’m dangerous,” he told her.
She looked up into his eyes. His dark eyes almost seemed black. At that moment he looked feral. Her chest tightened. The look in his eyes should have made her quiver with fear, yet they did not. She didn’t understand why he had to tell her how dangerous he was to her. Though he was often reserved and always kept to himself, she knew he was kind. He had never treated her wrong and she never expected him too.
But right there he seemed so serious. He was trying to tell her his secrets with just that simple wild look. “I can handle my own,” she said.
James gave in. Just this once he could forget who he really was. His only hope that when she finally found out the truth that she wouldn’t fear him or even hate him. “I want to devour every inch of your body,” he growled into her ear. The sound of his voice made her body shake. Once again he leaned into her neck and he let his hands wander freely over her body. His fingers fumbled with the buttons on her blouse. He managed to free the first few buttons when he suddenly just stopped. “We can’t do this Kayla,” he whispered.
Kayla’s heart seemed to stop right here. His voice seemed to be almost dripped with despair. “Is something wrong with me?” She knew he was to go to be true; there was something wrong with her after all. She started to pout when she hear him chuckle.
James laid a kiss on her forehead. “There’s something wrong with me,” he told her. “I’ll only bring you harm Kayla. It is as simple as that. If this turns out to be something more I wouldn’t be able to leave you.” James sighed. More than anything in the world, he wanted to tell Kayla his secret. The thought of her being frightened by him always made him think otherwise. “If I couldn’t leave you then I’d bring some kind of harm to you.”
"I don't understand," Kayla spoke. She stared into his eyes hoping to find something. The feral look he had moments ago was replaced with agony. She couldn't guess why he felt that way. She put a tender hand to his cheek. "James, you're a good person, I know you won't do anything to hurt me." She watched as he closed his eyes and took a step back. His hands went to his head as he turned around leaving Kayla against the wall.
As James turned, he lowered his hands. He gestured toward her and opened his mouth to speak. A knock at the door stopped his words before they had the chance to reach his lips.
