Biography: Although her father was the Duke's recently-deceased weapons master, Janet grew up far from the influence of the Duke's court. She and her mother lived a fair distance away in their own quaint little dwelling, where gossip was the main form of entertainment. When she was fifteen, the weekly letters suddenly stopped and Janet was whisked immediately to the Duke's court to attend her father's humble, but respectable funeral. A week spent at the castle under the Duke's hospitality was all it took to have her return a year later seeking a job as a simple maid.
But although Janet seems a typically plain maiden, under her timid smile lies a secret: only half of her time is spent catering to the daily needs of the castle occupants. In truth, Janet is also James, part-time servant to the Duke's sons, and one of the few who would draw straws to see which unfortunate soul would drag a son out of trouble next. The only people aware of this puzzling charade are the stable master and quite possibly the cook (because, you know, the cooks usually know stuff). As for the Duke, the only thing he cares for is that she gives him a regular report on his sons - however she does it is none of his concern.
Personality: A gossip and a meddler, Janet easily blends in with the rest of the household staff. She knows her place quite well and takes care to be demure and respectful towards all who rank above her - to their faces, at least. Her temper may peak at times, but self-control is something she usually has a strong grasp on. Though a bit naive in her self-confidence, Janet is also a cunning character whose honesty is always something to be questioned. As James, Janet's personality is a bit more cool and restrained, though her exasperation with the duke's sons and the world in general is more likely to manifest when in this alter-ego.
