My tale begins: Madrona grew up fairly prosperous as the second daughter of her father, Commander Bryce Cadogan. Her tutors were some of the best and her fencing teachers, patient with her lack of talent in sword-fighting, but Madrona had always longed for the open seas. When she was eleven her father was reported lost at sea, presumably killed by pirates. Two weeks after his funeral, she chopped off her hair and ran away from home to work as a ship's boy named Mordred, raising herself through the ranks of the Marines the hard way and keeping herself on a low profile. She - or rather, he, now - is currently seeking a transfer from the Marines into the Navy.
