Gwen slowly blinked open her green eyes. She found herself staring at the blue sky. It had never looked so blue before. Her head hurt, her arms hurt and her legs hurt. Uneager to move, she just laid there staring at the sky, trying to let the sun-warmed sand will her into an easy slumber.
"Wait, where am I?" She suddenly said aloud, snapping to consciousness and feeling the sand around her. She sat up, looked around, saw nothing, fell back onto the sand and closed her eyes. Just another island. Well, how great is this? She just wanted most of all not to be lonely. It was all she was asking for. Why couldn't she just have another person to talk to, to just know that she was there, that she existed.
"Um, hey, you're up." A voice said softly with a mild hint of surprise and relief, breaking Gwen out of her thoughts.
"Great, now I'm imagining things." She sighed. But just then, she saw something dark move out of the corner of her eye. She turned to look. It was a boy, about her age, she guessed. He had scruffy dark blond hair and a cute face, though it was smudged with some dirt. His eyebrows were scrunched together and his eyes wide with concern. He wore a dark shirt rag with sleeves that were ripped off at the elbow. His shorts were dark blue rags and one leg of the shorts ended higher than the other. He looked pretty messy but he was still cute with his pale pink cheeks and tanned skin. His gentle but piercing blue eyes held Gwen's light green eyes. They were the color of ice, shiny, bright, and lively. Gwen could not look away. Finally, the boy broke her gaze and looked her up and down.
"Uh. . .you okay?" He asked.
Gwen could feel herself blushing. "Hmm, yeah. . .I think. I. . .I don't remember much." She paused for a moment, giggled, then asked, "So, what's your name?"
The boy gave her a curt nod as he said, "The name's Bryce. How bout'chu?"
"Gwen." She replied.
"Great. Nice to meet you." Bryce gave her a mischievous grin as he extended his hand.
As Gwen reached over to take his hand, she felt a spark inside of her, telling her that Bryce would be the one to help her. Bryce would be a great friend to her. She had a lot of questions for him but all her worries just melted away. Finally, she was no longer alone.
