The Ocean
Gwen quickly gulped down her breakfast of a banana and some coconut milk. She hurried outside, spreading her arms out to enjoy the sensation of the soft, chilly breeze on her face. Her long, wavy, golden hair flowed out from behind her head like streamers being blown in the wind. She closed her eyes and took several deep breaths. She loved the nature and how the ocean seemed so mysterious yet so familiar to her. She waded into the shallows of the ocean, lifting the hem of her long, white skirt. Using only her feet to guide her on the familiar path, Gwen slowly moved deeper into the ocean. When the water was up to her waist, she took a moment to savor the lovely view she had. The sun, high in the sky, the sparkling ocean that just seemed to roll on and on and the sounds of the waves against the shore. Then, suddenly, she heard something else. She opened her eyes and looked around wildly. She knew that sound. . .it was just like. . . .she racked her brain. . . .her dream! Then, she saw it. She whirled around and sprinted toward her house. It all seemed like a blur. Running barefoot onto the sand, she ran by her house trying to warn her mom and dad but she had no time. Just like in her dream, the tears in her eyes blurred her vision and she couldn't see where she was going. She just knew she needed to get to the cliff behind her house where the wave couldn't reach her, but she tripped on a piece of rock protruding from the sand a few yards away from the cliff. She flew forward and hit the ground with a thud, winded. The sound of the enormous wave behind her grew louder and louder until it was almost deafening. The last thing she heard before unconsciousness overtook her, was the sound of cracking and splintering of wood.
