The Weekly Rant LX -Remakes
Is anyone else sick of seeing the same thing over and over? I know that nearly everything has been done, but I get the feeling people aren't even trying to be original anymore. Proof? Well, most movies are based on books, games are based on those movies, and either a movie or a game may be made as a rip-off of the games.

Examples: Spiderwick, golden compass, narnia, don't they all seem similar?
British children discover other world, they're the only ones who can save it. That basicly sums up all three. Narnia came first, but who knows who it ripped off.

(obscure refference time)
Bioshock is a game that involves a man going to an advanced city (for the 60's, anyway) in which there are terrible mutated and crazy freaks everywhere. Fromw what I gather, this is the same as a game called System shock 2. Notice that just there? Sequels are wildly popular (with the guys who make them, I mean) in both movies and games.
Off the top of my head...
Movies:
Rush hour 3
007 movies, there was about 4 of them
Aladdin 3
The harry potter franchise
Saw 4
The Indiana Jones movies, 4 now, I suppose stare
6 star wars movies and an animated thing! for the love of god, let it die.

Games:
Halo 3
God of War 3
Call of duty 4
The Medal of Honor series, been in business for about 9 years, more games than I know of
Dynasty Warriors 6
Resident Evil 5 (but there's much more than that)
Grand Theft Auto 4
Devil may cry 4
Metal Gear Solid 4
The Mario, Legend of zelda, and pokemon franchises, all owned by nintendo *evil eye*
Super smash brothers brawl, game number 3 in the series

I could go on, but I think by now you either get the point or need a pickaxe shoved in your eye.
I don't know how many rip offs there are of the above titles, but I can tell you that Halo has more b*****d children than a mexican orphanage.

Does anyone have any ideas left? Wait, what's that, lying in the sand? Why, it's all the original, neglected, underappreciated movies/games no one cared for because they were watching the latest horror flick (which is a semi true story blown far out of proportion) and playing a halo rip-off!
Movies I feel deserve praise: ...none come to mind, I don't watch a lot of movies, but if you know of anything original or groundbreaking, feel free to let me know.

Games:
Assassin's creed. Now, this is slightly copied from prince of persia, enjoying yourself on the rooftops of an ancient civilization, but the fighting, story, and overall look of AC make it simply awesome. It's not a shooter, there are no guns in the game, and you need half a brain to figure out the fighting, so many people reject it to go play space marines... again.

GUN. Now here I was confused, this is a game set in the old west, and without a doubt the best cowboy game of all time. You, colton white, shoot outlaws, indians, and evil civil war veterans in the name of revenge, mostly. historical accuracy is out the f%@cking window and buried a mile down, there are fast-loading cannon turrets, gattling guns in some places, you take a swig of whiskey to regain health, and are the most amazing gunslinger on earth with the help of quickdraw. I can't think of another old west game in existance, so there's your originality. My confusion? Why didn't people like this game as much as other shooters? It has action, guns, awesome gunplay, blood and gore, some scantily clad women, and a decent story. What more do they want? If you ever play this game, play until you beat the mission on the bridge, (It's about mission 3, you'll be fighting indians) if that doesn't thrill you, this game isn't for you.

Fable. You know those fantasy stories you used to hear about brave heroes defeating evil wizards and vile monsters? This game allows you to be the knight in shining armor... or... you can be the evil wizard. There are 3 areas of combat, might, (physical power, be tough as a rock) magic, (sorcery, mystic arts) and skill (stealth, archery, guile,) and 2 areas of alignment, good and evil, all yours to choose from. When you're good, you gain a halo, when you're evil you grow horns. Not a lot of games give you a choice between playing the hero and being a villian, but you still have to kill the main bad guy... still, There's no game quite like it, even it's sequel (yes, I know) is supposed to be drastically different.

I'm not saying that all the titles I listed are unoriginal, the first parts in those titles like God of war, halo, star wars, indiana jones, metal gear solid, saw, were almost completely new things when we first saw them, but hold my scorn just the same for making so many sequels and spin-offs, trying to hold a spotlight as long as possible for more money. There may be changes, but it's usually the same as the predecessor, something fanbases may never realize because they loved the predecessor enough to ignore the obvious repetition.

Oh, well.

BOTTOM LINE: (you've found it at last) We have to stop buying into the same thing we did last year with minute changes, it only encourages the greedy, remake-loving bastards to keep it up and release more would-be halo and narnia.

That's this week's rant. I'm Varmeip, Goodnight.
