Movie Review: The Brothers Grimm *spoiler free!*
Just got from watching the named movie. I loved it. It was wierd in it's own little way but had plenty of adventure and a really good story.

Short version: Imagine the basic story of Shrek, except replace an ogre with two brothers, the venture to highest tower to save a princess with killing a witch, and add a bit of freaky-ness, jumps, and the French.

Long, detailed version: There are a variety of characters in the movie. You have Will Grimm, the man who has a way with ladies and believes in a logical explanation in everything; Jacob Grimm, the man who believes in enchantments, easily frightened, a novelists, and often lonesome; Angelica, who is alone except for her sisters, helps those she loves, and was shunned from the village folk; and some French guy (don't really remember the name. sweatdrop ), arrogant, outwardly brave but coawrdly on the inside, and a believer of sorts.

Basically, the brothers go a call-to-call basis of hunting the supernatural. If a demon is in town, they'll be there...for a price. Eventually, they are captured by a French general, who charges them with murder, as young girls have been kidnapped and they are blamed. If they don't wish to die, they must recover the girls, who have all lived in the same village.

As they arrive and investigate the scene of suspected disappearances, they find out the surrounding forest in enchanted. The trees, literally, walk around. In the center of the forest is a tower, which is where all the story takes place and is learned.

The movie takes a lot of characters from various stories. The main villain is a cross between the queen from Snow White and Rapunzel. In order for her to do her magic, she needs little girls. There's Little Red Riding Hood, Hanzel & Gretil, and a few short scenes of the Gingerbread Man and even a small spoof of The Lord of the Rings (at least, that's what came to my mind.).

Overall, the story is great, the movie is a bit freaky, and well worth the money that was spent on the ticket.

I rate it: 5/5 biggrin

I'll take your word over critics anyday. I'm dying to see this movie. Not only because along with Edgar Allen Poe the Brother's Grimm have always had a place in my heart. I don't mean to say that I like the fairy tale versions that disney comes up with but I enjoy the REAL Brother's Grimm tales that were far more horrific and demented. Lol, did you know they mixed up the ages of the characters in the movie? The eldest is the youngest and the youngest is the eldest...oops...

I want to see this movie because I love the Brother's Grimm, I love movies like this, I love the main actors and the director is a big believer in old time movie effects. Meaning he uses CG only in places where puppetry and old tricks just won't cut it. I like directors that use CG to enhance the movie not OVERWHELM it. Let's face it...puppetry and animitronix have come a long way and are more realistic looking right now then rendered CG fur. razz
