Yoru
“We’ll be home in about an hour.” My dad and mother said almost at the same time. “Don’t answer the door to anybody you don’t know.” “Yeah, I know daddy, don’t act like I’m 9 years old, I’m 16 remember?” I rolled my eyes at his babying. “Just call the cell phone if anything happens.” She told me as she hugged me good-bye. Geez, they’re going out for an hour and they swear they’ll never see me again. I sighed about 100 more times when they finally left.
I decided to read outside, my brother was asleep, and the day was entirely too beautiful to stay indoors. I grabbed my favorite book and headed out to the front yard.
The breeze was so cool and instantly put me in a good mood. Today felt so wonderful and it was strange, for me to feel so comfortable here. Plus I couldn’t shake the feeling that something big was going to happen. This is also strange, because NOTHING ever happened in my neighborhood. Nobody ever even goes outside.
Except for today.
I was sitting under the plum tree. I live on a corner Street so I couldn’t see the front of my house from where I sat which might be a bad thing, I didn’t bother to lock the front door, and my brother was asleep inside. I told myself not to worry about it, after all, nothing interesting ever happen in my neighborhood.
Except for today.
A Sentence was all I could read before I saw him walk by. Shinny black hair that shimmered and moved along with the light spring breeze. He wore layers of clothes, but I could see the contours of his abs and the muscles in his biceps and his forearms. I could smell a sweet scent emading from his body. I was no longer glancing from underneath my eyelashes but in a full blown gawking in aw. I realized I was staring opened mouthed, so I quickly snapped it shut and shot my eyes back to my book as soon as he looked at me. He looked straight at me with his golden yellow brown eyes. I thought I heard him chuckle lightly under his breath, but then again, I could be wrong. Even so, my insides turned completely to mush. No longer could I even dream of returning my attention to my book. Thoughts of him instantly filled my head. I could feel my face burn up around my light skinned face.
When about 30 seconds passed, I peeked up from under my eyelashes to see if he left. I couldn’t see any trace of the boy who had just walked by. “Maybe I imagined it” I muttered softly to myself.
"That’s an interesting book…” Suddenly a smooth voice-even though it was an interval above a whisper-made me jump and cry out loud in shock. The book flew out of my hand and landed in my lap. I spun my head around to see him!
“W-When…-h-how-where?” I frantically searched for words to ask what I wanted to know, but my brain was completely scrambled from the mere sight of him sitting so close.
“Forgive me mademoiselle, I didn’t mean to startle you.” He purred in a French accent. “I thought you knew I was present.” He suppressed an amused laugh.
Heart still pounding, I finally got my mouth and brain under control. “Where’d you come from?” I meant to sound annoyed but I sounded awed instead.
“I just moved here from France with my family, and you?”
I couldn’t tell if he was being sarcastic or not so I answered him honestly, as I sat back down in my spot under the tree.
“I was born in New York, but then my parents moved down here to Texas.” It sounded so mopey, but he just sorta gazed down at me curiously. “May I ask of your name, mademoiselle?” he said even softer, tucking a lock of hair the wind blew in my face behind my right ear. “You can call me Yoru.”
M-my name’s Ashley.” I tried to keep my voice steady, but failed miserably.
Mm…Ashley hm?” he thoughtfully looked into the distance. “May I call you Ashurii?” It was more of a statement, but I answered anyway.
“Sure, I don’t mind, yoru” his name being said made my lips sort of tingle and, once again, my face grew slightly warm.
“Then I am ever so pleased to meet you, Ashurii.” And he gently grabbed my hand and softly kissed the back of it, sending chills down my whole body.
But I liked it.
We talked about the most random subjects for about 45 minutes nonstop, until he finally broke the happy laughter between us with a terribly sad sigh.
“Ma Cherie, I’m sorry to announce that I must be leaving you until next time.” He had a mournful gaze. “But I shall see you again sometime mademoiselle Ashurii!” with this stated, he gleamed brightly with hope. “Then I’ll wait till next time.” I smiled at him, although I was sad for him to be leaving, I felt satisfied to be with his lovely, glowing aura. It practically hugged me softly. Then I remembered reality. My parents, brother, and everything! I’d completely forgotten! If my parents saw me out here, they’d freak! Totally have heart attacks.
“Okay, it was so very pleasant speaking with you milady.” He nodded his head toward me and kissed my cheeks, warming each of them up until I see him next time. And we departed. I watched him head toward the direction in which he had come from. So much did I want to follow him to his home and see where he lived, just to know, but I turned and headed for my house instead. I smiled to myself. “Nope nothing interesting ever happened in my neighborhood.
“Except for today.”
