Chapter 1: Roukan
“Da*n this all to he#l!” I couldn’t help the anger that flowed through my veins. Meridithia probably was wishing that she could slap me to knock some sense into me, but how could I control this !?
“would you please calm down, Moyshi?!” Meridithia begged me. “I’m coming with you! You don’t have to take all the heat from the council if I’m there too.”
“don’t you understand?! The Roukan hates my guts and they’ve been waiting for this exact moment! Just waiting for me to screw up like this! They’re going to take this as a blessing and banish me or something!”
“oh come on now, surly they wont banish you from the city…”
so she claimed, but her face was worried by that possibility. I knew she didn’t want me to leave, and she would come with me if I were to be banished. But I would do everything in my power to keep her from doing that, she loved it here; she had so many friends, and family.( although most of them had died in the human/wolf demon war so many years ago.)
Meridithia has been my best friend since I could remember.(and that’s saying a lot since my kind has an extremely long memory, plus we tend to live a long time, if we aren’t killed or burned at the steak ) She has been with me during the most hectic times and the best times…although there hasn’t been that many pleasant times in my life…but even so, I love her like a mother. (mine had died in the battle. She was on the opposite side as my father-being the human she was-making the war difficult for the both of them.)
“And besides, Moyshi” Meridithia’s voice perked up, snapping me out of my reverie. “It’s not like this is the first time a human got in the way of a demon fight, maybe they’ll be lenient and have you do something simple for a punishment!”
She squealed, I growled.
“No, Meridithia, that’s what they’ll do to you.” I tried to glare at her unsuccessfully. She looked at me with mournful silvery-pale, blue eyes, causing me to soften my tone a bit. I sighed “okay, okay, maybe I should try to be slightly more optimistic like you…”
She lit up with satisfaction. “see?!” she beamed. “is that so hard?!” She skipped lightly ahead as we trudged through the deep green and brown forest.
I could hear the cicadas and other unknown insects chirping, making noises and buzzing around as we stepped down onto the soft dirt, which made a squishing sound when ever I stepped down onto it. I could hear a light plat…plat…plat, from the rain water falling onto the grass and other leaves all around me.
As I looked down to my right, I could see a pair of chipmunks scurrying up a nearby tree I couldn’t identify. Meridithia had slowed her pace down to match mine and we continued to walk through the thick muck. Oh ho,I thought. Boy am I gonna have a fun time cleaning the mud off of my steel toed boots!
And just then, I sensed it, sensed him. I could never ,in a millennium, forget that cinnamon frosting, spicy, tingling smell that rose from his skin.
Kish. He’s the Roukan Temple guard. And boy, does he have the body for it too…
I thought wickedly to myself.
I smiled sheepishly as I realized who was merely five minutes away now. Meridithia’s nose was just as good as mine was, so I knew she smelled him too. I slung my silver hair (with natural red high and low lights that matched my eyes)over my slender shoulder to slyly glance down at Meridithia to see if she reacted in a violent way, she always did when Kish is around. I saw her fuzzy grey ears slightly twitch. I silently giggled to myself at this.
Meridithia claims she totally loathes Kish, but I know her well enough to say she feels exactly the opposite. Maybe that’s why she always gets so angry when ever she catches him flirting around with other girls, or chasing a pretty skirt. He often flirts with me. Oh ho boy, does that set her off! Doesn’t even bother pretending not to give a care or pretend not to notice it, she flat out throws a tantrum! It’s quite amusing to watch if I have to say anything about it myself, usually she’s so sweet and calm…but she’s practically bipolar; so suddenly shifting moods more than I shift forms! (My kind has the ability to change from half-wolf to human, of course there are the few exceptions-like me-who have to find a different way to control such transformations with ease. As for me, I have a sapphire crescent moon just above my belly button.)
“Meridithia! Moyshi!!” I snapped my head up as soon as I heard Kish’s husky Voice. Meridithia was, no doubt about it, pissed already. Hmph. And he didn’t even come within five feet from us yet.
But when he did, he gave us an evil little half smile. He walked up to Meridithia first and lightly kissed her cheek. My kind is very touchy and this is casual, so this gesture seems extreme to most humans.
“And hello, Moyshi…” he purred as he pulled my tail and spun me around to look at him. He wrapped me up in a tight hug and then kissed my lips, hard. Probably a little more than necessary, because I heard Meridithia break off huge branch from a near by tree. I wasn’t expecting her to hit Kish in the head, but she did.
“ARG! You are such a pig!” she screamed loud enough for a snake to fall out of the tree she was standing next to in that high baby voice of hers.
“owe! What did I even do to you!?” he said as he was rubbing a lump on his head. I wanted to laugh. “Man, I’m not here for even a minute, and you’re already beating up on me!”
“It was long enough for you to annoy Moyshi to death!” She crossed her arms over her chest.
“Meridithia, Kish wasn’t annoying me yet.” But I probably shouldn’t of said that out loud for Kish to hear-He’s so full of himself most of the time. He laughed a thoughtful wicked laugh that I wish I could totally stop from escaping his lips.
“Sh-shut up Moyshi!” she hissed.
“My, my, my, Moyshi…” he chuckled, ignoring the icy glare coming from Meridithia. “…can it truly be that you actually like me after all? Maybe Meridithia has a new rival?”
I didn’t have to wait long for Meridithia to react to his response, the branch that she had in her hand before was now being used to repeatedly beat Kish in his head.
“how dare you say such nonsense!?!” her electric blue eyes burned with fury. “How many times must I state that I do not like you in any way at all!?!”
“Alright! Alright!! I’m sorry! Sorry!!” He tried to run away from her but she finally stopped after several blows later.
“What are you even doing here?” I questioned suspiciously. “aren’t you supposed to be guarding the Roukan Temple?”
“Ah that I am my darling, but they wanted me to come and check up on you. To make sure that you’re coming, but they never said that Meridithia would be along with you…she seems awfully angry today, I wonder why that is…”
“Stop talking about me like I’m not here!” I heard her yell from about 10 feet ahead of us. I stifled a giggle, but Kish wasn’t ashamed to laugh out loud at her.
It took about 7 more minutes before we got to the temple, and all the way, Meridithia shooting Kish and me unusual icy glares. But I knew in about 5 more minutes, that attitude would dissappear, so didn’t worry about it too much.

“And now my ladies.” Kish began as we walked into the temple. “I’m terribly afraid to announce this is where we must heavy heartedly depart!” He faked a British accent, then laughed at himself. “You both know the way to the meeting room I assume…?” he bowed and stayed at the front of the doors, but when I turned to follow Meridithia into the small hallway, Kish caught me by my tail and, once again, spun me around to face him.
“Moyshi, please, don’t do anything rash…I don’t know what I’d do if you found yourself in even more trouble.” For once he actually looked like he meant it. And just then, Meridithia must have noticed I wasn’t following her yet, because she was instantly at my side dragging me away toward the meeting room.
“Pfft, He’s the only one that’s sad we are separating…no good, lecherous, womanizing, perverted, loser.” Meridithia said to low to where even I could barley hear the curse.
But as we walked slowly down the small hallway, her mood slowly changed to what I think is her normal behavior.
“So! Are you ready to get going!?” It was hardly a question, she knew my answer. Never, would I be ready-because I know the moment I walk into that room, I’m gonna want to kill every single one of the council members. And I probably could, the only thing that stopped me was Meridithia. Curses. She opened the doors with out waiting for my response.
“ Ah welcome, Moyshi.” By the look on the leaders face, I could tell that Kish wasn’t kidding about them not knowing Meridithia was going to be there. So much for them “seeing everything”. They obviously say a lot of crud that’s not true, but I already knew that.
“And do tell why you have brought this innocent victim along with you.” A female council member with silken black hair sneered as she pointed to Meridithia.
“I was Moyshi’s companion during the fight, madam.”
“So were you the one who dismembered the human?”
“n-no, but-”
“Then I see not why you have come here. We did not send for you at all.”
Meridithia sighed, but not in defeat, it was more or less like fustration. So I decided to do what I do best: Argue and make a big deal.
“why don’t you jack asses shut up and let the girl speak?!”
All seven of them turned to look at me in shock. I don’t know why? what? Did they honestly believe I was going to sit here silently? Ha, what a silly thing to assume!
I am, however, amazed that that only thing they did was turn to Meridithia waitingly.
“I do believe that I should accept any punnishment that you are going to hand out to Moyshi…”
“What!?!” She jumped by my sudden outburst. “I thought that you were coming with me to defend me! What are you thinking?” Then I lowered my voice to talk to her alone. “ What if they deside to banish me from Hitoshirezu or something!?”(by the way ‘Hitoshirezu’ is the name of the hidden city we live in) I didn’t want to give them any ideas of banishment, just incase that’s not what they are planning already.
