On a Journey Through Darkness...

Friends or Enemies part 2
I promised, and here it is. whee

It has been brought to my attention by a couple of people that the Bush family and the bin Laden family knew each other before 9/11, and that Bush helped them (Along with other Arabs) out of the country near after.

It would not surprise me one bit if all of this is true, and in fact I believe it to be so. Let me explain why it makes little to no difference on the "Bush is a bad man" front.

When someone tells you this story, they say it in such a way that it sounds very bad. But let us go over the details of their relationship:

1. When Russia was (Trying to take over? In control of?) Afghanistan, Bush Sr. trained, among others, Osama bin Laden in the use of weapons and querilla warfare in order to (Stave off? Kick out?) the Soviets. This was an act much like our current war in Iraq; Trying to help the people help themselves. (In Iraq the Kurds, people who were trying to rebel in the first place, are helping us.)

2. The bin Laden family is one of the richest non-citizen Arabic families in the United States of America. They helped Bush Jr. by giving him loans to start businesses that tended to go down hill. Think about it, the Bushes helped them in Afghanistan, they felt a little obligated.

3. When 9/11 happened, you know that any Arab with a name associated with a certain terrorist would be targets to 'Patriots'. So the Bush family helped out their friends by getting them out of the country. And, most likely, the bin Laden family didn't have anything to do with the terrorist activities at all.

4. Some say that they were rushed out too fast for the FBI to have spoken to them, but there are several reasons that they would be exempt from that, as well as the fact that there is no evidence that no secret interrogation happened. Some of the reasons they would be exempt, however:
a) They were friends of Bush, and it would be a horrible act in the Arabic mind to betray ones own flesh and blood, even if they are causing atrocious events.
b) They were not citizens, and had no compulsion by US agencies of that sort, I believe. I mean, the FBI can't just pick up a French citizen and start asking, if they don't believe there is any direct connection with some wrong doing. They can ask permission first, but they can't just go and do it.

So I really don't see what the problem is with them leaving the country right after 9/11.

I agree wholeheartedly. Osama was the bad egg of the Bin Laden family. The rest of the family really didn't have anything to do with 9/11 I think. But you have to admit, rushing them out hush hush like that wasn't the wisest thing to do. Honestly, I think he should have announced that the Bin Laden family wasn't evil; Osama was. Meh. That's just my personal opinion on this though.

At a time of so much false patriotism and Arab-hating, it would have sounded really bad to the people no matter what he said.

At the time I don't think they were sure it was Osama. And I.Am is right, think of the Arabs here. Even when they were born here, if they're descendants....there were eggings, protests, mailboxes getting knocked over, it wasn't nice for any Arab.

This is a really good point. There was a unjustified bashing of Muslim, Arabic, and Arabic-looking people after 9/11. People forget that there is good and bad in every person (no ones 100% one way or the other) and the same applies to groups of people. Just because one gathering of Muslim radicalists happened to do something so horrible doesn't mean the entire enthic/religious group is the same... and just because one family member is a bad apple doesn't mean the entire family is rotten to the core...we must remember that.

This reminds me somehow of Michael Moore... is that where this comes from? He's a little too radical for my taste... radical people scare me- they will sometimes do anything to prove themselves 100% right... they can be too blinded by thier extreme leftist or rightist ideals to see the big picture. I like to think that most people are more moderate. At least, that is what I observe... somehow the more radical people tend to be heard more often, though..

I still voted for Kerry (don't hate me! sweatdrop ) but it was a very complicated choice (I'm very..um, what you call it? Moderate, middle-ground... I swing both ways politically..more than most people I suspect, anyway).... not that it matters much in Texas, anyway. I could've not voted, and it still would've had the same effect.

Erm...think a siggy change is in order, because the American people were smart for once. I mean....

    Quote:
In 2000, while protesting Bush's Electoral Vote win, the Democrats made a big deal about Gore having the largest popular vote in history. Gore: 50,999,897, Bush: 50,456,002.

Even without the final results in (mainly California), Bush has exceeded Gore by over two million vote: 53,459,293. Kerry, however, has not yet exceeded even Bush's year 2000 total: 49,816,958.

He said he trusted Americans, I thought he was a fool to do so....but I was wrong.

...All I know is that it is a very complex web that that Bush family is weaving. And why did we attack Saddam? Most say it was to liberate the Iraqis. But more importantly, it was to take control of their oil, so that we have more natural resources. And with more resources, we become even more powerful. Everything about "freeing the Iraqis" is just a front to get you to be patriotic...
...So saying, I do love America. I just don't like the way things are working out with Bush.

You do realize how much oil it takes to keep the troops mobilized, right? We end up losing more oil here at home than gaining. If it was for oil, you'd think the gas prices would lower instead of rise, but a large portion of oil is going to the military.....

Please... Not with the oil... Everytime someone links the Iraqi war with oil, I die a little on the inside. cry

Not really. But it does make me kinda sad... It's not about oil, and I won't repeat Kate's excellent arguments. 3nodding
