Development Update 2/18 Yes, yes, the 2/18 update is being written on 2/20. But Monday was a holiday for us! Bugs We're Working On Help Us Track Down Malware Ads Anatomy Of A Feature We rolled out the new registration this week. Usually rolling out a new feature involves a series of steps. This is kind of how it broke down: 9:00am -- start the push of registration. Our awesome devs, Foobar, fieryange1, and ChuckP2 are all on standby to watch for problems. Krispy Kreme doughnuts are on hand. 9:15am -- code is pushed out and live on the site. All the traffic is running through the HTML version so that we can see if the (new) backend has any problems. 9:30am -- we find a few minor problems in the stuff that got pushed out and tweak it. 10:00am -- everything looks good. We look at the clusters and they aren't redlined -- that is, everything is okay. We decide to switch over 25% of all the traffic to flash. 11:00am -- Flash looks good. We increase the traffic to 50% and keep watching the databases. 12:30pm -- we decide that it loads too slowly. We move some of the traffic from our servers to the CDN to try and make it faster. All in all, it was an extremely smooth launch. We're currently running half the people through one reg and half through the other to see if one or the other works better. Stuff Rolling Out Soon - some tweaks and modifications to registration - a major rework to export avatar -- generate a badge for your avi and show it on other sites - changing the login dialog -- people were hitting "Register" instead of the login button

	Yay for holidays. I don't get them. sad In other news: I hope the hair selection gets tweaked; when I was playing with the new registration to see the new features (ha ha pun!) it kept shifting the styles while I was clicking the "change color" button. >.<

	I agree about the Register Button lol. I almost clicked it the first time because it looked like the log in button.

	I think it's that the register button is all big and shiny and brightly colored and the login is that small lil grey one. Because I did that too. sweatdrop

	Great! Now all we need is the avatar creation portion of the registration to be used when deleting and recreating your avatar. I went to go try a new mouth style on a mule, and I didnt get any of the new options.

	This should be interesting. It'll be good once everyone can get on Flash, reminds me of the third Gaia Layout. Also, badge as in something we could also use for conventions?

	Yeah, it's cool you're rolling out all this stuff for the new members. Love the register screen, I played with it for a lil' while earlier. However, I (as well as many of the above posters) would like to see the avatar RE-creation screen get a makeover, with the new eyes & hairstyles. And as for the register/login problem - I'm guilty of that too. The fact that the register button is so big and stands out with it's color has me click it about every single time. (You'd think I'd learn by now!) Maybe give the register button it's own little box, like where a person's avatar would normally be?

	o__O!? You can actually control the amount of traffic that sees something? I've always wanted to send some sweets to the HQ, but with how much you can't trust random food you get in the mail, I bet you'd all just toss it out... Hmm... Perhaps I should send some wax fruit...
