Everyone had begun training that day. Everyone but Daniel, Jenny, and Gingy were sparring against each other. Josh was watching all the battles.
Josh: Good... work on your defensive attacks as well... Don't rely on just one technique... Keep it coming!
Josh was doing an excellent job of helping everyone train. Meanwhile, on the opposite side of the village, Daniel, Jenny, and Gingy were all sitting legs crossed.
Daniel: So, are you two ready?
Jenny: Yes.
Gingy: Yes.
Daniel: Good. First thing I want you to do is connect with your animal. You both have done it once in your past, but doing it while being angry and doing it at will are completely different transformations. Doing it while angry, you transform part of you, not all of you. At will, it will take over your body with you still in control, but without mastering it, you wont be in control. There's always a chance of your animal taking over your body permanently, and I'm telling you this. They aren't happy with us. They've been locked inside us for 3 years now. They will try to get out and take over as soon as possible, so you must be ready.
Gingy: Is there any way out of it after your animal takes over.
Daniel: I wouldn't be here right now if there wasn't. You have to fight your way back out.
Gingy: I'm not sure I want to do this anymore...
Daniel: Gingy! You have to! Us three are the only shot we have at winning this! Without us, the world stands no chance!
Gingy: Fine... What about-
They both looked over at Jenny, and she had been concentrating this whole time. Her ears were growing longer very slowly.
Daniel: She's doing it. She's getting part of it.
Gingy: How can you tell?
Daniel: Look at her ears. She's communicating with her cat.
Gingy: So... I will become a hawk?
Daniel: Well, not exactly. It's more of a human form of a hawk.
Gingy: Guess I'd better get started.
Gingy closed his eyes and just sat there.
Back at the front of the Earth Village.
Josh: All right. Next, i want you all to enter your powered forms.
Kim: Are you sure? We may kill each other!
Josh: If you die, then that's that. You have to fight holding nothing back, because when the gods show up, you could die any second. You never know what may happen.
Everyone looked at each other. A few people gulped in fear.
Josh: Are you ready?
They all nodded and turned their powered forms on.
Josh: Ok. Begin.
Everyone started fighting. Daniel was in his powered form in the air watching both sides now.
Daniel: Looks like Josh is going hard on them, just like I thought. Jenny is doing a great job, but Gingy is having a hard time. Not sure what to do with him. Maybe he needs an extra "push"...
Daniel flew down to where Jenny and Gingy were still concentrating. Jenny's fingernails were starting to grow out longer and sharper, and whiskers had started coming out of her cheeks.
Daniel: She's doing better than I expected. Gingy on the other hand... He hasn't made a bit of progress.
Daniel knocked on Gingy's head. Gingy opened his eyes to the hollow noise
Gingy: What do you want? I thought I almost had it!
Daniel: Stop trying to kid yourself, you know you weren't even close.
Gingy: ...
Daniel: Come with me.
Gingy followed Daniel through the many trees surrounding the Earth Village. Daniel knew where he was heading. He was heading towards his mother's house, but more importantly, her planting ground. As they got closer, Daniel stopped.
Daniel: It's just up ahead. You go on.
Gingy: What's just up ahead?
Daniel: You'll see.
As Gingy tried stepping over some bushes in his way, Daniel pushed him forward, and Gingy was over the hole that Maria grows her plants in.
Gingy: Oh god! Why!?!?!
Gingy just kept falling. Not knowing what to do.
Gingy: Think! Think! Think!!!
Gingy closed his eyes and tried to concentrate, and quickly, wing sprouted from his back, and a beak grew on his face.
Gingy: Yes!
Right before Gingy hit the ground, he swooped up, and flew back up through the top of the hole.
Daniel: Perfect.
Gingy: Ya!!! I did it!!
Gingy came down and landed next to Daniel.
Gingy: what would you have done if I didn't get it to work.
Daniel: Heard a big splat.
Gingy: stare You had no back-up plan?
Daniel: Nope. There just would have been one less Gingy in the world. Either way it's a win for everyone.
Gingy: You suck.
Daniel: Hey, you got out didn't you?
Gingy: True... What's that?
They both turned around and saw big eyes staring at them in the bushes. The creature jumped out and landed on Daniel. As Daniel fell, he was pushed into the hole, so now he was falling with this creature on top of him. It was too dark to see what it was. All Daniel could see were two big cat looking eyes.
Daniel: Urgh! Jenny!?
As Daniel said this, the creature's eyes closed tightly, and it grabbed it's head, letting go of Daniel. Daniel then turned into his dragon, caught the creature, and flew out of the hole.
He landed next to Gingy who had turned back to normal, so Daniel did the same.
The creature Daniel was holding was a large human sized cat. It couldn't have been anyone other than Jenny.
They both walked back to the training area with Daniel carrying Jenny in his arms. When they got back, Daniel laid her down on the ground gently, and as she opened her eyes, her cat hair started to dissapear.
Jenny: Daniel?
Daniel: You did it.
Jenny: I did? why don't I remember it?
Daniel: Your cat took over your body.
Jenny: He did?
Daniel: Ya...
Gingy: You almost killed Daniel!
Daniel: Gingy!!!
Jenny: ... I did?
Daniel: No! No you didn't!
Gingy: Ya she did! She pushed you down into that hole!
Daniel: Gingy! I swear I'm going to kill you!
Jenny: I'm sorry!
She sat up and put her arms around him.
Daniel: Jenny, it wasn't you... It was your cat... You shouldn't feel sorry...
Jenny: That's not what I'm talking about!
Daniel: Well... What are you talking about then?
Jenny: You never could think for yourself could you?
She grabbed his face and kissed him.
Gingy: Woah... I'm just gonna go over here and practice...
Gingy walked away. Daniel slowly took her hands off his face and stopped.
Jenny: ... I really am sorry that I ended us... I've regretted it ever since...
Daniel: .....
He stood up and looked the other direction.
Daniel: ... I'm not.
Jenny: ! B-but... W-why? I thought you wanted this...
Daniel: Wanted... is a past tense word...
Daniel slowly walked away listening to Jenny's tears. Then he started talking to himself.
Daniel: I'm sorry, but I can't do that. We are about to fight for our lives, and I don't want anymore pain for either of us if something were to happen to the other. As much as I would love to be back with you, to feel your soft hands intertwined with mine... I can't. We can't...
Daniel just stopped walking and starred at the ground as the wind blew his hair around.
Daniel: I love you, but I'm sorry...
