This song is Christmas Carol that was made in the 1500s. Did you every wonder why it was made or the point of the song was? In truth the song isn’t about a guy giving his girlfriend gifts. No, there is much more to it in that. This song was made to help teach kids about the bible. ‘True Love’ refers to God, and ‘gave to me’ refers to being Born Again.
[+] Partridge in a Pear Tree = Jesus the savior. A partridge would usually pretend to be wounded to distract the enemy to protect her young. A pear tree if giving a good climate will bear fruit abundantly.
[+] 2 Turtle Doves = The New and Old Testaments
[+] 3 French Hens = Faith, Hope, Love
[+] 4 Calling Birds = The Four Gospels
[+] 5 Golden Rings = The first Five Books of the Old Testament know as the “Pentateuch”, which gives the history of man’s fall from grace
[+] 6 Geese A-Laying = The 6 days of Creation (when God creates the Earth and such)
[+] 7 Swans A-Swimming = The 7 gifts of the Holy Spirit [Romans 12: 6-8]
[+] 8 Maids A-Milking = The 8 beatitudes
[+] 9 Ladies Dancing = The 9 Fruits of the Holy Spirit
[+] 10 Lords A-Leaping = The 10 Commandments
[+] 11 Pipers Piping = The 11 faithful apostles
[+] 12 Drummers Drumming = Diving Government in the Earth
Every gift was sung to represent something to help teach kids about the bible. It also shows that God not only gives new gifts but keeps giving the ones from before also. I learned this in church today and thought it was really neat how everything represented something ^^
