Kalt walked up the steps of the greatmansion and peered inside. He was amazed at what he saw. The place had many rooms and seemed to be built out of raw materials such a straw, twigs and branches. He turned to the elder and stared at him. "Sir," he said ina surprized tone, "It must have taken months, even years, to build this! How did you do this?". The old man stared back, his gaze no longer comforting. "Master Kalt, you belittle our ability too much. This structure only took a few days." Kalt walked inside and stared at the high ceilings and peeked down the long corridors. He was impressed and amazed that a structure as complicated and intricate as this could be built in such a short period of time. Before he could get too into the building, the old man called out to him, "Master Kalt. I must speak with you." Kalt walked into the foyer of the building where the man was standing. "We require to see your skills as a swordsman, Master Kalt, to prove...that you are truely capable of weilding that sword correctly." Kalt felt that the man was different. His tone had changed completely from the last time he had talked to him. His voice echoed with cold and hatred. "What should I do to prove this sword is in capable hands?" he asked.
The old man snapped his fingers and another person emerged from the shadows carrying another person whose hands were bound and face was covered with a mesh bag. The man dropped the person to the floor and removed the bag. Kalt was suddenly filled with fear. It was Eva. "Eva? What are you-" He tried to say, but the elder interrupted,"This girl is traitor to our village and to her own morals. Eva grew up here as a child and with her parents. Unfortunatly, our village has been attacked constantly by lycanthropes or werewolves. Her parents fell victim to an attacker and were dragged off by it. No person that was dragged off has ever returned. Now, Eva wants to travel with werewolves such as you? While you may not be a bad person or werewolf yourself, Kalt, we do not trust your kind at all. She showed compassion to you by not killing you when she had the chance. She must die for her betrayel. Her parents would want it this way." Kalt stared down at her. Eva was crying heavilly and struggled to get free. kalts mouth hung open and his hair droped down over his eyes as he swun his head forward. Eva looked up at him as he began to draw his sword. He flipped the handle around so that the sword was facing close to Eva's face. "I'm sorry," He said as he stabbed the ground.
Eva looked as the sword stabbed into a log directly next to her. "...But I can't kill a friend. I've already done too much of that." Kalt stared at the elder as he hung his head over his sword, his eyes flashed a deep yellow, then back to their original color. "I see..." Said the elder, "Then you easilly pass." he said with a smile. Kalt stood up straight and looked at him and his white teeth. "I...pass?" "Only those with true love and respect for friends and stregnth in passion can easilly weild that sword. Come! We will feast for your arrival soon. If you would, Master Kalt, free Eva and take her back to her house. She will help lead you there." The elder began to walk into the house and out of sigt as Kalt bent down and untied Eva's binds. She stood up and felt her wrists, marked with the ropes that had once held her. "I...you..." She tried to say, "Eva. Shall we go to your house now?" Kalt said in a friendly tone. She smiled nodded and grabbed his hand and lead him back into the village. He could instantly tell that Eva was a regular in this village because everyone seemed to wave and nod to her as she ran by, holding Kalt's hand with a vice-grip, dragging him through the dirt. The ground was still wet from the rain from before and Kalt's footprints were easilly noticed in the soft mud.
Eva seemed to run forever when all of a sudden she stopped at a lonley hut at the end of the village. Compared to the elder's house, this was an outhouse. Eva lead Kalt inside and finally realeased her grip. "Make yourself at home, boy. I've just got to grab a few things before we can go to this thing. Wow...the elder's table! It's so rare that anyone get's to eat..." She kept talking for a long time about what an honor it was to eat at the elder's table and such while Kalt spent the time to walk around her house. He came across a bookshelf filled to the brim with many different kinds of books. Books kalt had never seen before, books he coulden't read...and a single book that stood out among the rest. It was the only book with blood on the spine. Kalt pulled the book out of it's place on the shelf and became shocked at the sight of the cover. The title was "Mom's diary". Kalt desperatly wanted to read it, but knew that he could never hope to pry into Eva's mothers thoughts. As he was about to put it back, Eva's hand grabbed his shoulder. Kalt knew instantly that the book needed to be hidden. Eva woulden't want him reading it. He tucked it quickly underneath his cloak as Eva spun him around. "Ready to go, boy?" she asked. "You know, I'm not a dog, Eva. You don't have to say 'boy' and stuff. Just say Kalt." He asked. "Oh...okay. It's just a bit easier for me..." He knew she felt offended by his comment. How could he blame her for calling him names? His race did kill her parents..."I mean...nevermind."He quickly corrected himself. "Okay! Lets go, boy! Err...I mean Kalt!" She once again grabbed his wrist and ran him through the village. Suddenly, Kalt recieved an epiphiny. "Eva..."he asked"...where are Lok, Ice and Jenny?"
Eva had stopped in her tracks and turned around facing him directly. "Well, they were following me when we went to the village. They were captured when I was captured...I don't know where they would be, but in the mansion. Mabey the elder is going to make it a dinner surprize. They'll probably be at dinner, Kalt." She grabbed his wrist again and ran him towards the mansion. Kalt knew Lok was tough and would be alright...still, it was weird that if the elder's men had captured Lok and the others that he hadn't said anything. Eva released his wrist and Kalt suddenly realized that they were already in front of the mansion. "Come on, Kalt! The elders waiting!" said Eva. She ran inside and the doors closed behind her. Kalt stood outside the place, contemplating his friends whereabouts. As he stood, it began raining again. He didn't want to be wet for any dinner, so he opened the doors and walked inside. Eva stood in the foyer waiting for him. "What took you, Boy?" She asked jokingly. He hadn't wanted to ask her, but felt he should in case it was something he should know. Werewolves don't always kill their victims..."Eva...I know your going to get mad, but that diary in your house...your mothers diary....how did you get it?" Eva's eyes widened and suddenly grew firey. 'That's none of your concern! How did you find that? Do you have it with you? What did you read?" Eva shouted. Kalt knew he had struck a chord, but had to lie for his own saftey. "No, Eva, I didn't read anything, I don't have it. Don't worry." He said attempting to calm her down. "...you werewolves are all the same. Always butting in where your not wanted...If you must know, the elder gave it to me. He said he had found it after we suffered the attack that..." Eva stopped as the elder walked into the room. "Eva, Kalt. Right this way, please. He lead them into a dining hall the size of which could have fit an entire apartment building. There was a small table in the middle of the room filled with food of all sorts. Kalt carefully eyed all of the cooked meat and fish. "Please, eat. I will join you shortly." The elder said as he began to leave the room.
Eva and Kalt walked towards the food and almost jumped into the piles upon piles of food. Everything was so good and juicy. They smiled at each other as they stuffed their faces. However, Suddenly, Eva had stopped. "Eva? You okay?" Kalt nudged her in the side and she fell over onto the floor, dead asleep. "Ha...silly girl, you've over eat..." Kalt suddenlt felt very drowsy. His mouth went dry and his legs became shaky. He fell to his knees and realized what was happening. "Sleeping...sleeping powder..." He fell face forward onto the floor and fell asleep. Kalt awoke in a cell that seemed to be made of stone or a rock. His face was swolen and his legs felt bruised. "Where...am I?"He asked trying to stand up. He leaned on his side and shouted in pain. His right arm was broken and bleeding. "But...how? I'm not supposed to break...I'm a werewolf..." he said to his cell floor. "A werewolf who has no sense of friendship. You forgot about Lok, Ice, Jenny, and that strange fellow who followed you here. You don't derserve this sword"
Kalt tried to open his eyes to see who it was. The elder. "I knew it! What have you done with my friends and..." Kalt stopped cold. He was holding a glowing blue blur...his sword..."You are going to atone for your crimes against your sins here for the next 6 months. Enjoy your stay. Oh and by the way, the only reason your took on a more powerful werewolf form is because this sword amplifies your lycan abilities. Without this thing, you'll just be a harmless wolf." the elder said walking away. "Goodbye, Kalt" he turned a light on in Kalt's cell and walked away. His footseps echoed for many miniutes and eventually died away. Kalt was far in a dungeon somewhere and his friends were missing. As he tried to stand up again, the diary fell out from his cloak and turned to a page almost completly stained with either his or Eva's mother's blood. Kalt read the entry and his eyes began to widen as he ead every word.
"April 14th. Dear Eva, You must be about 17 by now, right dear? I'm sorry I could not see you grow into a young woman, Eva. If only I could escape. Your father is trying to find a way out of the Elder's prison, but things seem grim. We were so surprized that the Elder has the ability to control us werewolves. Eva, that day we lost you, when you were so young, of course we coulden't die. Eva, you know we're strong. We'll get out."
"April 15th. Dear Eva, they took your father away yesterday. They have these special collars that bring out the wolf in us and make us obey their every word. I should know. They ordered your father to attack me. Eva, I don't know how much longer I can stand being here. I don't like having to wait for our turn to die. Eva, no matter what happens, we love-"
"She stopped...this must be when they founf the diary..." Kalt ripped his shirt into a cloth and used it to support his broken arm. He picked up the diary and tried to read more, but his arm was throbbing and taking his stregnth away. "Eva, this was written two weeks ago, before we met you." he said to himself. "Your parents...their...alive." He said as he crumpled onto the floor and lost consciousness.

The end is near...
Even a man who is pure of heart
and says his prayers every night
may become a wolf when the wolf-bane blooms
and the autumn moon is bright
