"Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment." ~Buddha
One of my most favorite of quotes. I mean, seriously, how true is it?
"Do not dwell in the past..." We're all guilty of it from time to time, some more than others. I'll admit, I'm quite guilty of it myself. But what good does it ever do? Dwelling in the past saps the life out of you. If you keep reliving your past, you'll be blinded to the opportunities and situations that are right in front of you.
"...do not dream of the future..." Now, I don't think that this means to not have plans and pursue them. I think this only means that you shouldn't let the unwritten future dictate everything you do today. If everything you do is just to further some purpose for the future, then by the time you get there...you'll have nothing. You'll have squandered everything in hopes of one day having something else.
"...concentrate the mind on the present moment." Look to today. Live for the moment. You'll get more out of life that way.
I try to go by that quote. Try being the operative word in that sentence. It's more than hard to do sometimes. Memories haunt you. The future can look like dark clouds on the horizon. The moment seems to be insignificant sometimes. But I do try, I really do.
