NOTE: Hehe, the story is called "Yuki's Story" but right now, it's set mainly in Raito PoV. Anyway, this part has a really corny part, during the... third paragraph, I think. Yuki talks about this necklace she has and what she says is really corny, so... yeah. I might revise that soon... Come to think of it, this entire part is corny. The end especially. I didn't know how to write that part so that may be revised too. Help is welcome. ^_^

The first day of school ended with a lot of homework and I couldn't even finish half of it at school. Yuki had finished the homework from the first four classes before lunch and the first class after lunch. We had gym and I took a quick look at the girls' field to see how well she did for the class. All the girls were amazed by her excellence - I could hear their compliments from a mile away. I frowned and turned away to participate in the activities. Afterwards, we had one more class but not even Yuki was able to finish the homework for that class. During the last few minutes of school, - the teacher told us to talk amongst ourselves until the bell rang - everyone was talking about how Yuki had finished most of the homework when the rest of us couldn't complete one problem or finish a sentence. I gritted my teeth and continued to do my work through all the talking. Yuki didn't even pick up a pencil to finish the last class' homework. She just sat there and read.
The second day was easier. Less homework was given for the day and I had finished the first four classes homework during lunch. The two guys who were talking to me the day before were struggling to do their homework, so I had peace and quiet. We had no homework in the next class so I had nothing to worry about there. Nothing to do in gym. Homework in the last class.
The first month flew by and it was October. Yuki slacked off this month, though she managed to complete most of her homework at school and the rest at home. She wore a strange necklace with silver and orange beads. It also held a round, amber stone. When the girls asked her why she was wearing it, she responded, "I want to protect myself from all the phantoms and magic. This necklace holds a lot of memories and those memories protect me. The memories tell stories. One story for every day in the month of October. They tell many, many stories. Enough to last centuries." She asked if they would like to hear each story during lunch and they immediately said yes, eagerly waiting for the lunch period to come.
Unfortunately for them, Yuki ate lunch and finished some of her homework for the first half of the lunch period. For the second half, she put away her books, threw out her garbage, and began her tale. All of the girls from our class were there, along with a few guys who admired her. She spoke loudly so all of them could hear, but her voice reached my spot and I struggled to complete my homework. However, I was forced to stop and listen to her, for she was too loud and annoying. It went on for every day in October. When November 1st came, I was overjoyed, though I didn't look it. I was able to complete my homework from the first four classes for the first time in days. November and December passed by. Yuki talked to me - in an actual conversation - on the last day before Christmas and New Years' break.
"Yagami-san," She said, approaching my desk. She carried a large gift bag, that was previously filled with presents for everyone. It was now almost empty. Yuki smiled and took out a medium-sized gift as I looked up at her. "Merry Christmas, Yagami-san!"
"Euh... thanks," I said slowly, taking the gift. It felt heavy. Two girls walked over.
"Yuki! Why do you call Raito-kun 'Yagami-san?' Everyone calls him Raito!" They asked.
"Err... because we're not on a first name basis... at least, I don't think..." Yuki replied, a thinking expression on her face. Finally, someone who actually cared about the 'first name basis' concept.
"I'm sorry, but we aren't. I just don't know you well enough," I told her. "I don't know why everyone's calling me 'Raito.' I don't know them well enough either. The only two that I really know are them." I gestured to the two guys who had bothered me on the first day of school. We were friends now... sort of. Yuki paused and looked at me. She smiled slightly.
"Of course! You don't call me 'Yuki' because we don't know each other that well. You're the only person in this class, other than me, who cares about whether one knows another well enough to call them by their first name."
"Come to think of it," One of the girls said, butting in. "You guys have a lot in common. You're both smart and you both care about the 'first name basis' thing. I think you guys like to read too!"
"Yeah, I've seen Raito-kun read during lunch. He reads novels, though, and Yuki reads manga books." The other girl added. Yuki smiled at them nervously.
"Wow, how observant you two are," She commented. "You could possibly end up being a sleuth or something. They notice things like that because it might be important for their case."
"Hahaha, maybe," One replied. "But don't they usually keep quiet so they could keep focused on things? I can't stop talking for very long." The other nodded in agreement.
"Well, I guess they would. But if you can't stop talking for a long time, you would have to do something like talking to the suspect to get information," Yuki shrugged. "I don't know about this stuff. I'm just guessing, though I'd love to meet some detective one day. They're so smart."
"My father's in the police and solves problems like that," I said without thinking. Realizing what I said, I kept my mouth shut and looked at my desk.
"Really? Can I meet him?" Yuki asked. "People in the police force never have a lot of time for interviews and stuff like that. Especially since we live in a city full of sin, or so my grandmother says." She stopped talking and waited for my answer. I froze, staring at my desk, just thinking. The two girls, bored of the silence, went off to go talk to their other friends.
"Uhm... sure, but I'll have to ask him first. He doesn't approve of sudden company," I replied slowly.
"Okay, no problem!" Yuki paused and grabbed a piece of paper and a pen. She scribbled two phone numbers on it and handed it to me. "Just call this number for my home phone and this one for my cell phone." She pointed at the numbers for reference. "Whether or not your father says yes or no, please call anyway so I'm not waiting around for nothing, okay?" I took the paper and pocketed it, nodding. "Thank you!! I've always been interested in detective-like work. I want to be in something like the FBI or the CIA one day. But first, I have to do well in English. I think I'm failing that class." She put the pen inside her backpack and walked off, waving good-bye. I silently scoffed and tossed the gift into my school bag. Oh yeah, I'm sure she's failing English.
