For however many gay rights topics there are out there I'm not doubting this one hasn't been done before, but I do not want to go back 50 pages to find it.
I have a gay friend, who has recently "turned" gay. Nevermind he had crushes on not only me but other girls recently as well, and now after asking several out (I declined) he says he only felt a sisterly bond with us. This friend is in the GALA in my town, "Gays and Lesbians Association" , basically a Gay and Lesbian only club.
Another friend of mine, when he mentioned this, said such a club was slightly strange. My gay male friend took immediate offense, and asked what she meant. She replied with the question, "Well, do you think a Straight Only club is offensive?" He replied that it was, and that it was discriminatory against homosexuals etc. She questioned what the difference between a straight only a gay only club was in terms of offensiveness, since both exclude the other. My male friend was very pissed, and refused to talk to her any longer.
My question/discussion is, is a Gay Only club acceptable, but not a Straight Only club? Is one more offensive than the other? Why/ why not?
Is Gay Pride necessary, when anyone boasting Straight Pride would be lectured on how they are narrow minded and wrong?
While both my female friend and I are straight, we support gay rights. I am just slightly offended when these issues come up, and the homosexual friends I often defend turn their backs on my friend and I when it comes to "being with their own kind". Yet if my friend and I are uncomfortable with something involving them, they view us as bad people. Wtf?

Since when is a gay club exclusively for gay people? To my understanding a gay club is just a place that it is acceptable to be gay. Where I live (Wichita) there is a Gay Club that is within a mile from my house called Fantasy.
Fantasy does not exclude straight people. ( Can you see the bouncer standing in front rejecting somebody because they look straight? ) On several occassions I have taken a handfull of my closest friends. Now keep in mind I'm the only gay person within this little group. Did any of them get turned away at the door? Not at all.
Gay clubs are just a place for gays, bis, and lesbians to be without having to worry about discrimination from gay haters.
I think it's fine to have a "Straight Club" but until Gay Clubs start kicking people out because they look to straight I think it's rediculous to restrict the members of a straight club to just straight people.
