{With Eyes Like Asphodel}
the great moral question of our time
I can’t tell if the moral boundaries I’ve established for myself as being “right” and “wrong” are even worth holding up any more.

I seem to be one of very few on campus that doesn’t drink. I learn that people I hold in very high esteem have experimented not only with alcohol and “recreational” drugs, but also dabbled in the harder stuff. Am I the only one who believes that it’s best just to stay away, it’s best to stick with less hazardous (not to mention more legal) ways of having fun?

Are the arguments true – is there really no negative consequence? Is it worth it to uphold these standards if I can find no one who agrees with me? I’m not religious, I don’t care about homosexuality, or abortion, or what you think about politics or war. Why do I have such rigid rules about substances?

Am I going to be able to find a mate that shares my ideas about society, and yet also abstains from these behaviors? Am I going to have to look the other way while he does these things, and feel bitter and disappointed over it again and again?
