The woods were frosted white with the winter's latest snowfall. Anya stared up at the full moon, the white orb glowing hugely in the night sky, and pulled her coat tighter around her. She shouldn't be out here, in the winter woods after dark, but her job had kept her late. Besides, it wasn't that far from her home. She could walk it easily.
A wolf howled in the distance, and Anya shivered, not just from the cold. Suddenly, the world felt like a lonely and barren place, and anything could happen. She tried not to think of Papi's stories of werewolves and robbers and rapists, and her steps quickened in spite of herself. Home. She wanted to be home.
