Pigs roll in mud for a variety of reasons. The main reason is because they do not sweat. The mud cools their bodies. They also do it to keep bugs from biting them and to prevent sunburn. Have you ever seen a sunburnt pig? I haven't. I have also never heard of a depressed pig (aside from Wilbur, but he's fictional, and clearly doens't count).
Humans do not tend to roll in mud. Humans sweat to cool their bodies, and to smell like we haven't bathed in days. We have sunblock and bug spray, but we still get bitten by bugs and we still get sunburn, both of which make us very unhappy. We also get depressed, sometimes for no reason at all.
But I've noticed that when a person does go for a romp in the mud, they always seem to emerge happy. Dirty, yes, but happy.
Therefore, the key to happiness, is to roll in the mud.
