I feel the weird :TERM NOOB:
That everybody was a noob once so i have no feeling ppl calling other ppl the word noob because if they were one once why must they moke the one person of new ppl that looks like a noob im pretty sure u was a noob before....no doubt about that.. biggrin

Newb and Noob are both completely unrelated words. The only 'related' thing about them is their closeness in spelling/ pronounciation.

A newb, abbreviation for a newbie, is one whom is, you guessed it, new to someplace. However, indeed it does get confused with the latter, for a slang term for a newcomer could also be a 'noobie' - taken from 'newbie' I guess just because of the spelling.

This is where things get confusing, for people use the word 'noob' on random people as an offensive manner. Why? Well, they have no manners for one.

A 'noob' is, logically, a term for a newbie as well if you generalise the 'noobie' into a shorter word, but in online forum sites and in the online gaming world, the word is used as a reference to someone who is ignorant, blatantly oblivious to the truth, blind, and yet they continue to ignorantly portray their views as though they were correctly set in gold, and bash anyone else who would dare contradict them, or set them right.

A good scenario would be as follows (and yes, unformtunately it did happen) -
I'm playing the slots on Gaia, getting rid of my daily chance tokens. A girl comes in, and asks, "What do u think of my avvie's head?"
So in other words, she was asking for an opinion. So I state "It's nice, though it's a little on the plain side for my tastes. I would add more accessories."
A lovely bit of critique there for her, however the response I get goes along the lines of "Oh ya well ur avvie is ugly."
So in other words, she was not asking for anyone elses opinion, but wanted to hear her deluded own about how beautiful her pixellated head was. As soon as I gave a view she did not want, I got bashed for it. Therefore, she is a 'noob', not necessarily a 'newb'. However I don't tend to use the word. I either ignore, or call one such as them an 'arse hole'. And that's relatively clean for my mouth. I can come up with worse.

An inverted scenario is, (as the last was a girl, this will be a guy, to avois sexism as it were) a guy creates a thread, or in a MMORPG, comes up to you, and begs for gold. You refuse, and they call you a 'noob'. Are you for merely refusing in which you have every right? That one's ironic because they're actually calling themselves one in doing so.

So as you see, you have your 'noobs' and you have your 'newbs'. Originally 'noobies' were another word for a 'newbie', however honestly? I fail to see where that connection was lost, or if it was even made in the first place.
