You know, it's the season to be jolly, with the good will towards all "men", to give presents that come from the heart, and to celebrate Christ's birthday.

...I don't see that.

Let me first off say that no one is exactly jolly this time of year, what with the bills and the costs of the presents ($700 for a PS3...?) and the stress of finding that perfect gift. And as for Christ's birthday... well that's been scientifically proven that he was born way before the actual day (or well after, depending on how you would look at it), and that it was actually celebrated by Roman in a drunken lustful orgy... Fun history, eh?

But then, of course, talking to someone about the holiday spirit, I started to question if one actually exists. I mean, this alledged spirit is suppose to involve being charitable, giving to everyone and not expecting anything in return, that every effort they put into the holiday planning is for the family in the whole so they can have the most perfect day together, and their satisfaction is knowing that everyone in said family is equally happy; and then sharing this same feeling to neighbours with the gift of music, so the neighbours can feel the same holiday goodness that the same family had experienced! (*huff puff*)

...But what is it do we get, really?

People screaming at each other because they cut them in traffic, high debts due to presents, annoying kids waiting to see if they got the gifts they wanted (and then the terrorizing anguish they'll later create), the weird christmas specials, the bombarding of toy commercials... and just about any other negative connotation one would expect to see all the other days of the year compacted into one month.

Now, don't get wrong, I like christmas, it's practically an excuse that I get to see my entire family in one house, I just it would change. Change for the better. Because I see that, in the long, probably not-so-distance future, we'll just call it Annual Gift Day and make sure we get at least three presents to keep the young'ns happy. We'll just have to see, won't we...

Aw. *hugs and cuddles Muro*

Yeah, Christmas is indeed over-commercialized, but the "holiday spirit" still exists. And as far as expensive gifts, there's an easy solution. 3nodding People who really deserve gifts will appreciate handmade stuff even more than bought stuff, generally.

And it reminds us to tell everyone we know how important they are. Something people tend to forget to do on a day-to-day basis.

You're important! =P And cool and awesome and all that.
