Ashen Wings
Why did I fail you?
Born from the womb of an angel,
wings charred ashen with sin.
I came forth in the dark of anguish,
bathed in self-pity and despair.
Why did I fail you?
You who held such love for me,
holding tightly to the shell of my existence.
I wove lies that held you,
sheltering me from the truth.
Why did I fail you?
You who suffered by my hand,
but held me close all the same.
Blind faith and hope cut with the blade of a knife,
yet never pierce the surface.
Why did I fail you?
A creature cast from the light,
you clung to the hope that shrouded me.
A hope merely illusion.
Why did I fail you?
I pushed you away,
cloaked in my own delusions.
You try still to follow,
but the path is worn.
I have forsaken you,
just as I have forsaken love.
Why did I fail you?
Born from the womb of an angel,
wings charred ashen with sin.
I came forth in the dark of anguish,
bathed in self-pity and despair.
Why did I fail you?
