How do you judge art? It is clearly a subject that is relative to whosoever is exeriencing it. Aquinas made the famous statement that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but sometimes I think that this assessment is false. I think art is good if it clearly shows the audience what the artist is trying to accomplish. If it is something that is supposed to be real, then it should look, real, and if it is something that is trying to stir some form of emotion, then it should. People should not sit and listen to the so called "experts" to tell them what is good and what isnt. Sometimes I find that Renaissance and Romantic art transport me into the lives of the objects being portrayed, but modern art such as "Piss Christ" and "The Holy Mother Mary" that are just trying to make harsh religious statements that cause people to be insulted rather than profound just make me sick.
