Normally I keep Gaia stuff and Real Life stuff strictly separate. However, these are exceptional circumstances.
I am likely to be extremely inactive for the next few days or weeks, as my sister is currently in the intensive care ward and is extremely ill indeed. Some kind of infection caused a major build up of blood clots inside her pericardium (go look it up), which put pressure on her heart to the point where it was having great difficulty functioning, and last Sunday she was admitted to hospital.
Since then her condition deteriorated, she was moved to the local Intensive Care Unit, then to the ICU of a different hospital that specialises in heart/lung medicine, and is among the best such hospitals in the world. Last night they cracked open her chest and cleared out the clots around her heart, drained fluid from her lungs, and have been doing everything in their power to get her stabilised. At the moment she's still incredibly ill, with machines to support her heart, lungs and kidneys to give those organs time to rest and recover. We're still waiting to see how she reacts to the operation and taking it from there, but she's in the best possible hospital, being tended to by the best possible medical professionals, so we're hopeful. At this point, positive thinking is all we can do.
Obviously all other matters take second place to this, which is why I haven't been online recently, and likely won't be for a while yet. I've been at the hospital for the last three days, and only today have things been stable enough that I've been able to get home for a shower and change of clothes. So sorry for my absence, but thank you for your understanding.
In the meantime, any thoughts, prayers or positive mojo you can send in her direction would be much appreciated. Her name is Natalie, she is a fantastic person, and me and my family love her more than words can say.
