As she stumbled through the portal, Vadrielith was shaking visibly. She sat down with her back to a large boulder.
Jak, after stumbling through behind her, kneeled in front of her. "Are you all right?" he asked. At a nod from her, he continued, "Is it true what they said, that you killed six people?"
"No," she replied, "It was seven. I didn't mean for any of them to die. I was born in Spargus City, but when I was two, my mother and I left my father and sister and left for Haven. We lived in the slums, so I grew up with all the fights and scraps between people around me constantly. I don't know what the Krimzon Guards do now, but back then, they didn't trouble themselves with the slums, unless someone was killed. When I was seventeen, some guy tried to mug me, so I started fighting back. I pushed him away from me, and some idiot flying in the Low Zone hit him. So, they counted it as murder, I was thrown in jail, and they expiramented on me."
"What about the other six? The vision...?"
She nodded. "That was the first time I broke out of jail in Spargus-- four years ago. I passed out after using too much power and reinforcements came and caught me. Y'see, when I was banished to the Wastelands, my powers were less refined, and I didn't have as much control over my power as you did... but I had as much of it as I needed. Praxis figured I was too dangerous and left me to die. When the people in Spargus found out what I was, they arrested me and did more expiraments to make me normal... at least, more normal than I am. Obviously, it didn't work. All I got out of it was the ability to open portals... and I can still barely do that. I don't always know where they go, or if I can get one going back."
Daxter, after brief consideration of what she had said, spoke up. "So, you're telling me, that you have no clue where we are?"
She nodded.
"That we have no food, no water, and no way of knowing if the locals are friendly?"
She nodded again.
"ARE YOU INSANE?! You open a portal to who-knows-where, drag us with you, and now we're going to STARVE?!"
She stood up. "Look, you little weasel--"
"Ottsel."
"Ottsel, whatever. Your little pep-talk ain't helping. It was either end up here or get shot with those Peace Makers!"
"So you want us to die slowly?"
"You wanna start something?!"
"Bring it on!"
"Daxter, cut it out!" Jak broke in. "She could beat you with her eyes closed and one arm tied behind her back."
She leaned forward and patted Daxter on the head like he was a small child. "Literally, so you be a good little Ottsel and stay outta trouble."
Daxter's line of grumbling that began to follow was cut off as he got a glance at a bit of her cleavage when she leaned over. He instantly mentally forgave her for dragging them to wherever they were.
"By the way," she said, straightening up and looking at Jak, "I'm Vadri."
