Have you ever been reading a book, and then, suddenly, something all ties together and you realize you know what the hell happened and how it's going to turn out, but it's not enough to put the book down and you want to keep reading just to know how things ended up that way?

Yeah, that happened with the book I'm reading right now. Mammoth by John Varley. About halfway through, reading about something completely unrelated to the main plot...BOOM.
