Everything Goth = Nothing Goth [Public]

When everything's goth, nothing's goth is a saying I've recently come up with. It's referring to the notion of one claiming anything and everything to be goth. Though, this isn't normally something I personally get bothered with as it's usually just harmless ignorance. I still however like to inform when the need occasionally arises.

That's beside the point of what I wanted to write about today though. I wanted to talk about goth appreciation vs over saturation. As a goth I of course love gothy things but I usually am not a fan when everything is goth. That being said, it's not to confuse that with the above where I was referring to someone mislabeling something but more so in the literal sense. An example would be one having everything in their home goth or gothic. While I can appreciate it, I also get bored when everything is the same.

That's just how my brain works though, possibly due to my ADHD or something of that nature. I also feel like this is due to my personal appreciation of goth as well. For example, if every house and person in a neighborhood was goth, it would sort of take away from one standing out and being unique. I always love seeing a single goth person or gothy thing among the norm. It just has such a nice feel to it as it/they stand out beautifully.

I guess what I'm saying is, I love the uniqueness that comes with goth and seeing it stand out among the norm. It's a nostalgic and comfy feeling to me and I never tire of goth in that sort of setting. When over saturated as I stated, it just starts to feel a bit bland and doesn't have the same unique feeling anymore.

This isn't always the case with me however and I suppose it depends. When it comes to things that are inherently created to be goth, gothic or dark etc, I don't feel it's over saturated. For example, The Nightmare Before Christmas, that has a very dark, spooky and gothic design where the entire village is as such and I don't feel it's over done there. It's when something isn't designed or created as such and it's changed in excess is where I can feel it's becoming excess. Not that I think it's bad, not at all. I just feel it's less unique in a way like that and I can grow bored of it.

While I love DIY and it's one of my favorite aspects of goth, I don't care to do everything in my house goth. I'd like to have a decent amount sure but I don't want every single space painted black with ornate decor. If I had a mansion, I'd love to have it as such but a mansion is vastly different from a regular home as they are already extravagant.

So to sum it all up. I like goth and gothic things but I don't like when it's done to the point where it takes away the uniqueness when it's in a normal environment.

Feel free to share your thought, comments, and personal preferences. I'd love to hear from you.
