The day went on and evening fell over the small town. Alex and Danny were swinging at the playground. Little did they know that the third swing was not swinging because of the wind, but because of the angry ghost that wanted to kill Alex.
"That's creepy," Alex said.
"It's the wind, dummy," Danny responded.
Alex thought about this for a moment before saying, "if it's the wind then why isn't the fourth swing swinging as well?"
Danny wasn't quite sure as to how she should answer Alex. She did finally come up with, "because the fourth swing is broken."
Alex, who was not up for much or a fight, quickly agreed to the impossible theory. The swing was not broken. Alex then stared up at the sky seemingly looking for something.
"What are you doing?" Danny asked in her perky voice.
"I'm counting."
"Counting what?" The high-pitched voice asked.
"I'm not sure." Alex hadn't been counting anything in particular, as there was nothing much to count.
"Then why are you counting?"
"Because I think that's what you're supposed when you think you're going to die."
"Where did you here that?"
"I didn't hear it anyhwere. It just sort of seemed like a thing to do."
"Oh." There was a long pause before Danny spoke again. "Why do you think you're going to die?"
"Because there's a ghost sitting in that swing. She's pretty familiar, don't you think?"
Danny, who enjoyed staring at the ground for great lengths of time, pulled her focus away from the woodchips and looked at the supposedly empty swing. And low and behold, there was that scary ghost she'd seen in the picture sent along with that annoying chainletter.Danny stared at the ghost for a little while before looking back at Alex. She then said, "oh" as if it were no big deal.
"Yeah," was Alex's response. The both of them stared blankly at the ghost for a while. The ghost stared back, trying to be a scary as she could be. It had no affect on the two girls; they had siblings. The ghost tried a bit harder to look a bit scarier, but it could not match the picture of Alex's sister's butt set as her cell phone's screen saver. It also could not quite compare to the airless torture of suffering under the butt of Danny's brother. The ghost switched it's look to frustration. The girls continued to stare. Frustration. Blank face. Frustration. Blank face.
"Why aren't you running?" The ghost finally shouted. Unfortuneately for ghosts, their voices cannot be heard by zoned out teenage girls, so Alex and Danny simply had the image of a maniac ghost opening and closing its mouth frantically.
"Are you done counting yet?" Danny asked, not taking her eyes off the ghost.
"Three, two, one. Yep." And Alex allowed her life to flash before her eyes.
"Before you go," Danny began as if she was going to say some meaningful parting bit. "Can I have your pool?"
"You have my permission to visit my pool as frequently in my death as you did in my life."
"Thank you."
The ghost looked at them stupidly as they so coolly talked about Alex's death. She was baffled as to why they were not more scared and frantic about it. She, however, quickly gave up caring and posessed Danny.
"That's very odd. I always knew she'd be the death of me." And with that, the posessed Danny stabbed the expecting Alex multiple times with a woodchip. Alex, of course, did not die until the ghost got smarter and decided to use blunt trauma to the head via a rock.
It all ended in a bloody mess with police tape surrounding the playground. Danny explained that she had no idea what happened and why she had blood all over her. Alex's body was carried away in a bag.The ghost walked away from the scene mopingly. She was sad and a bit confused. She continues to kill chainletter haters everywhere.
And so ends the odd tale of the death of an odd girl, killed by a selfish ghost, via an odder friend.

That was fun.
