my old life seems so far away
sometimes I feel like a wild animal
raised in captivity
too soft for the jungle
but unfit for household living
I don't have the hustle for the streets
I lack survival instincts
but indoors I get restless
agitated
I can't imagine a future that doesn't feel like hell
sometimes hell has air-conditioning and dental plans
sometimes it has drunken sing-alongs around a burn barrel
sometimes you witness tragedy
sometimes you look away
but it's always there

i wonder if birds have any sense of gravity
if they see us on the ground and wonder
why we simply don't
fly away?
