The sound of thundering hooves echoes across the valley. The proud stallion held his tail high, his regal head set in perfect formation as he galloped along. His strong legs pumped, muscles bulging as he pushed himself forward. His coal black coat glistened in the sun. He let out a call, showing his dominance. Sweat began to fleck his coat and his mouth frothed. The stallion slowed to a walk and the stopped, looking around without moving anything but his ears and his eyes. When he was certain no one was around he put his head down to graze, his ears still waiting for the sound of predators.
He gathered the grass with his lip which he used as a human might use their fingers. Then he ripped the grass from the ground and ate it slowly, lifting his head, ears straight up as he listened for things that might be out to get him. His tail flicked at an annoying fly and he put his head down again. Quickly, he lifted his head hearing the sound of other hooves. He nickered loudly, tossing his head as he recognized the scent. His mate had found him at last. He trotted over to her and they exchanged greetings, blowing into each other's nostril's and then rubbing cheeks. He took his position beside her, protecting the little flea-bitten mare and began to groom her with his teeth, getting the dirt and bugs from her coat and she did the same for him.
