xoxoMedieval times in England were pretty religious. Camelot is England, and Arthur is the king. It stands to mean that he's going to have to be a figurehead for the religion of the people. Good and Christian, he prays before a crowd at any event, and has a talent for leading faithful in times of need.
xoxoGod, he's such a bad Christian.
xoxoKeeping the company of a heathen wizard, warming his bed with women and men alike, avoiding reading the bible at any given opportunity... He's a sham, really. He plays a good game of pretend in front of his subjects both outside and inside the castle, taking time to pray each morning, before meals, and in times of celebration or sadness. He will even set aside holy days for worship rather than enjoy them for himself.
xoxoDeep down, Arthur enjoyed the idea of belief, and held onto it in his own small way, but between the skepticism of Merlin and the dogma of priests throughout the kingdom, he would never admit it openly to anyone but himself.
