Meditations and Developments
A collection of thoughts on characters from various roleplays.
Kai and Gerda: A Meditation
I forgot that one of my favorite things to do with this journal was to expand on beloved characters. I forgot about the Hildegarde Pack and Shen Ford until I read back through them, and I have to say that the amount of detail I put into that kind of thing actually makes me impressed by my nineteen-year-old self. Since then I've had a lot less creativity, I think, but I do still find ways to expand on characters that I create. The medium is simply different.

Take, for example, Kai Heimirsson, the son of a dishonored noble who serves the Snow Queen Ingrid. He and his dear sister Gerda travel with Her Majesty and her son, the Crown Prince, to Arendelle to open up peace talks with Queen Elsa. So far, his story has been absolutely drama-bomb. I guess I still sort of missed my teen angst years trying to hold it together like a human being. I think I gave up around this big thing that happened in my life a couple of years ago, but maybe it's time to give it another try. Hold myself accountable, act like a ******** adult. s**t like that. And also swear a lot. Anyway, the deal with Kai is that he had a horrible ******** childhood and he's had to struggle to get back to being anywhere close to normal. It's actually a pretty predictable scenario. The difference is his sister, who is a badass. She can talk her way out of any bad situation and still look good. She can argue for the return of her brother and be heard even at the young age of five years old. She metaphorically pulled his a** from the gutter and brought him back to the world of the living.

What I'm trying to say is that Gerda makes Kai a better person. She believes in him when no one else will. Okay, all of this being said, I have yet to flesh out who she is away from him. I figure that a lot of it has to do with the fact that he kind of takes up a lot of her energy - not that he means to, she just likes to make him feel validated. She is purely a good person, but also knows how to make a situation work in her favor. Through sweet talking and the slightest bit of intimidation (for though she is small, she knows things) she can get a lot of things done. It's really quite impressive. So, basically, she's this young am-badass-dor who has the potential to take a place in court and be this heavy hitting politician, but she spends so much time and effort babying her brother - who is seven years her senior, by the way - and cleaning up after Crown Prince Jack-a-bee that she's all used up.

Maybe the way to project her is to show that she understands this, feels frustration over it, but feels love anyway. Because, let's face it, Gerda is just a great person at the end of the day.

Huh, I should do this s**t more often.
