A friend from work left the country this weekend, probably never to return. He told me a few weeks earlier that he was giving the company his 2 weeks notice and that he was going back to Singapore. When he was talking about how he was leaving, I swear I could see him tearing up a bit... I now know I wasn't mistaken.

I didn't ask for details since it seemed too sensitive a subject for him to want to talk about it, but from the bits and pieces I had gathered, my best guess is that there was a family emergency since his wife and the rest of his family was still in Singapore. The day before his last work day, we gathered a few friends together to go have some food and drinks at a bar.

After his last day of work, I saw him on the bus I take home. We had a little chit chat like we usually do about pointless things. When we got to his stop, we shook hands and exchanged goodbyes. He didn't look back when the bus left.

I wish him the best of luck and hope he's able to deal with whatever happened.
