My lips, parted just so much
to take in the sweet scent
wafting through the air.
My eyes, closed tightly
as if trying to block out
the one thing I fear most.
My mouth, now drawn into a taut line,
frustration coursing through
each and every bone in my body.
The dream I so feared
now faces me at every turn.
And still I deny
the very weakness that
every single person
impulsively locks inside.
If only I had known
your grace that always pours
over such deep wounds–
your love that never
ceases to surround me,
however pained I’m afraid to feel.
And now as I open my eyes,
casting away the blindness
to see past the lies,
my heart swells up as,
a little shocked, I realize
that my weakness is strength in your eyes.
