Anyway, I thought I would update here with some recent happenings going on in my life and my gaia life. <span id="test32183549">. . .</span><br/><div id="post32183549" style="display:none; margin-right:75px;">
Well firstly, if you have read my journel entries before, you will see one big difference. That being that I have a pink name now. Yeah ^^ I applied to be a Gaia moderator and I got approved!
I am sworn to secrecy so I cannot really say anymore then that, but I can say that I am loving it. Training is difficult but do-able, and it's fun too, especially the lessons. If anyone is considering on becoming a Gaia moderator, I would highly recommend it ^^ And here are some tips and advice from myself to which you should take into account before you do so.
Firstly, you have to meet all the requirements that are shown in the thread about becoming a moderator. This is found in the Questions and Assistance forum. It is a long thread, but it is worth the read as you will know if you meet the right standards and if not, what you can do to do so. I know it says something about your account being a ceritan age, you have to file a certian amount of reports [them being either ToS violations or misplaced threads] and you can't have any major warnings against your account, such as a scam warning or a troll warning.
Next, I suggest reading the Terms of Service and the Rules and Guidelines, especially the latter it is in smaller chunks and very helpful. If you like helping gaians, I also suggest reading the Safety Tips too, so that you are 100% accurate when it comes to helping others in keeping their accounts safe. All of these can be found at the bottom of every page, just press the End button on your keyboard and you will see the many links of blue!
One very important thing you must do also is read the forum Rules and Guidelines in every forum you enter so you can accuratly report threads that are against the Terms of Service or are Misplaced. Everytime you enter a forum, this should be the first thing you do anyway, especially in places such as Site Feedback or Lifestyle Discussion, because although their names indicate 'Feedback' and 'Life talking', there are many things that arn't allowed, such as User feedback with no suggestions or tip on how to improve, or real life problems. It sounds strange, but it is true, real life problems arn't allowed in Lifestyle Discussions, they belong in the Chatterbox.
When reporting, it is best to quote areas of the rules and guidelines that the thread breaks, or where in the Terms of Service they break. It shows that you have read and understood them and that you know what the user has done wrong. For example, say that you have found a thread by a gaian in the Back to School forum and inside, the user is asking for help with his or her homework. This is against the forum rules, so a report for this should look something like this.
Quote: This thread is against the rules of this forum as it is asking for help with homework, an in the Back to School Rules and Guidelines it specifically states; 'Topics NOT Appropriate for the Back to School forum: •Threads asking for help with homework.' This thread should be moved to the Chatterbox as it is disallowed here and is considered spam.
That fake report might not be 100% accurate ^^' Gimmie a break I'm still learning here. But this helps moderators a lot, as it shows that you understand what should be done, and it makes their lives a lot easier. Plus if you are in training, you can gain some brownie points for filling out a report correctly.
There is a ton more advice I can give ^^ But I'm currently re-writing the Rules and Guidelines into simpler form, because I know some people struggle with the wording of it, I have seen it in many forums.
There is also a second piece of news which I would like to announce. I don't know if I wrote anything about it, but I was a college student, well now I'm finished on that and the university panic begun.
It begun like normal, me not caring until it got around the time where the unis would say yes or no. I applied for two universities, the Christ Church University in Broadstairs being my first choice as I loved it there, my second choice being The University of East London as it is close to my house and is also a pretty nice place.
I had already gotten my results, I achieved three passes, which equals three A-levels at grade C, so I was actually pretty happy with myself, I was expecting to fail at least one module, but I passed them all, which gave me a lift because I don't normally get good grades.
My grades have been failtastic over the years, I got rubbish SAT results which meant I got into a secondary school I didn't like [only reason I went is because my sister went there], and I ended up with terrible GCSE results too, which meant I had to take a year out to retake English and Maths, along with a load of other useless stuff I didn't want to do but had to in order to be able to retake, such as CoPE [Certificate of Personal Effectiveness, otherwise known as ASDAN in some schools], a self confidence course and CLAiT, an ICT course which I actually enjoyed because it helped boost my IT grade. I also had to do Key Skills, which annoyed me to the max because my teacher was evil and the class was so painfully easy because it was for people who struggled to learn things, something I wasn't.
Well, I came out of it with exactly the same grade in Maths [a D], a C in english seeing as I had gotten a D before along with a pass in Key Skills, CoPE level 2 and a pass in Clait. This got me into college to study National Diploma in Photography, which got me to where I am now.
Anyway, going off track, the day came where I had to contact the universities and find out what was going on. We bothered Broadstairs first seeing as it was my first choice. I hadn't achieved the grades they wanted, seeing as they wanted two merits and a pass and I had three passes. East London had the same grade criteria. I knew that I would have to go through clearing, it's me, I'm a failure, I always have to scrape by.
Well Broadstairs said no, basically a 'lol u cnt get da rite grades, gtfo noob' sort of way. I was upset by this because I loved that university, it was nice and small and had a very nice atmosphere to it. I don't like lots of people, so it would of been perfect for me as their halls are a two minute walk from their classrooms and they only have 83 dorms, so not many people on campus. It was a two hour car journey away, but I would've survived.
So, my mood was pretty depressed right about now, because I knew East London was going to say no as well. But we rang them up anyway, well mum did I'm very scared on phones, I hate talking over them and calling people because it scares me when I get the wrong number. Mum spoke to them, then she gave me the phone because they wanted to talk to me. I was shaking by now, because like I said, I don't like phones.
The guy wanted my UCAS number, something mum isn't allowed to give. So I gave him it, along with my date of birth to confirm it was me, then he put me on hold as he checked. I waited and waited, shaking and thinking to myself 'You're keeping me waiting for this long just so you can say no' and mum started talking to me. As I was replying "I don't f*cking know" to her, the guy returned just as I was saying "f*cuking", so I was immediatly panicked there.
Well, he said thanks for holding and that he was pleased to say that they are happy to offer me a place at their university. I was practically in tears right there, but I held myself together so that I could respond and say thank you so much and to make sure that my details were going to be changed because I had gone for an interview to do 'Photography with Illustration' but I wanted to do just Photography on it's own. Apparantly it was on a sticky note about that seeing as I had brought it up at my interview.
The second that phone was down, I told mum and burst into tears. Mum was on the phone within seconds telling others whilst I calmed myself down, I couldn't talk to anyone at that moment because of the emotion. I've always been an emotional person, come on I cry when someone gets through on the X-Factor when I rarely watch it, or [for some reason], when there are pokemon contests on Pokemon. I don't know why that gets me all teary, it just does, probably because I wish it was real.
Later on when I had calmed down, I rang my best friend Ellen up to tell her the news. I could tell the others via Facebook, but she never goes on it so I thought I would tell her personally. I called her up and told her, only for her to tell me that she had gotten into the same university! I nearly teared up again; not only was I going to uni, I was going to the same uni as my friend so I wouldn't be alone, which was perfect for me because I am terrible when it comes to meeting new friends. Seriously I met Ellen on the floor outside my college classroom, she asked me for the time and things went from there.
So now everything is on the up for me. Student Finance is sorted so I will have my money, I have my accomdation sorted out too although I have to finish the online must read before I leave for it. We don't have much money, but we are slowly getting supplies together such as pans and stuff. I currently have two pans, they're black and sparkly ^~^ and a cup of my own with kittens on it.
I seriously thought the guy on the phone was joking when he told me. I am so used to getting the negative side of everything when it came to results, and now look at me, a soon to be uni student studying a degree in Photography. I'm going to work hard, well I say that now but I know me, I probably won't. I will still be on Gaia, just because I am at university won't stop me from my normal life of RPing and Gaiaing, especially now that I have become a Forum Assistant.
I leave for uni on the 18th of September to move into my accomdation. It has internet access, so I will be online still, I'm not about to abandon my online life because I have a real one.
For once, things are looking up.
With my Forum Assistant status, I have been assigned three forums to watch, these being my norm of Site Feedback [I love them for giving me my home thread], Computers and Technology which will be a challange because of the mass amount of rules that I looked through, especially the 'Done to Death' list as it is very big and is very techical. I'm not a 100% tech nerd, I just know what I like and some basic stuff, like how to defrag a computer and unzip stuff. I also have the Back to School Hot Topic to watch, which is reletively easy due to there only being one rule really. It has to be about Back to School, and can't be about homework help.
Anyway, 5am has hit and so I must take my leave. I have a person to reply to from Lifestyle Discussions, then I am going to get some well deserved sleep as I was up most of the night last night worrying about my training. I can't tell you anymore, tis a secret X3
