The Analysis of A Personality
A Second Personality Emerges: March, 2007
I was created in March of 2007, over three years ago now. Penny was in the seventh grade then, and a much different person than the one I know now. As a result, I was not "the smart one" then. I was simply a side account to help Penny get more gold. There is a possibility that, even then, I was another, separate personality, simple waiting until I was needed. However, it seems that I was not really needed until Penny's sophomore year in high school.
I believe that I am Penny's "smart" side. Penny is a very gifted individual, but cannot always appear so. Many of her friends' intellects are far below her own, so she must often suppress her intelligence. This became particularly troublesome for her when she became a more prominent member of her school's Gifted and Talented program. There, amidst peers of equal, and, indeed, superior, intelligence, she did not need to suppress her intelligence. However, she did need to suppress her new "party girl" side, because she really did like this newer, smarter crowd, and feared that they would not except her if she were what they considered wastes of human brains. The conflicts of what each group of friends needed her to be forced her to change, literally, from one person to another in a snap second. I think this traumatized her mind in certain ways, thus giving her two different personalities. I was the Penny who went to Gifted and Talented class, who performed at contests, who was allowed to be smart.
It's all very understandable. Penny comes from different background than that of her Gifted and Talented friends. They are rich, with parents who went to college, and probably grandparents as well. Penny comes from a low-income, low-educated family. She simple couldn't cope with being so different and out of place. But I fit right in, because I come from rich parents, and a well rounded family.
I think another part of the separation of Penny and myself was a boy that she met in her Gifted and Talented class. Let's call him Teddy. This boy met all of her criteria for boys, in every aspect. His views aligned with her own in almost perfect harmony. He was talented, and was in all of the activities that she herself was in. He was smart, funny, and charming. However, only part of Penny seemed right for him. There was a larger part of her that she feared would repulse him, if he came to know it. So she started dissociating herself from that part while she was around him. This furthered in my creation and separation.
Penny and I are very much alike. The fact that I am "separate" from her does not mean that she is unintelligent. She's very clever. But I am the one who does the in depth research, who organizes things, who really loves learning just for learning's sake. But she's fascinating, from my view. Her character became so diverse and complex that she developed a mental condition. Her, our, story is truly one worth knowing, and
sharing.
