Puppies!
Okay, so I was walking to class with my friend Claire. Drawing class, to be exact, which is about four blocks away from the main campus.

And suddenly there were two puppies at our feet. We, being girls faced with two cute, small, furry animals, of course reached down to pet them. Since they were right next to the driveway of a house, we figured that was there home. In retrospect I don't know why we assumed that, because there'd certainly never been any puppies there before. Anyway, we had to go on to class so we started walking away. They being puppies, they followed.

After about five minutes of trying to get them to stay in the yard we gave up and let them follow us to class, and explained the situation to the teacher. Then we sat around and debated what to do, during which time it began to really pour. When the rain let up we went back down to the house to see if anyone was home, but no one was there. There was a kennel in the back, so we thought we'd just stick them in there--but there was already a very small, scruffy, and ill-looking dog there. So we took the puppies back up with us, debated what more to do for about ten minutes, then went to find a phone to call the Humane Society.

We waited for them to get there for half an hour, during which time the puppies wandered all over the place and riled up some dogs that were next door. It started to pour again; a lady from the Humane Society finally came and took the puppies (which we temporarily dubbed Rosco and Lady; they appeared to be brother and sister), and we also told her about the other dog and she promised to check it out.

About twenty minutes after the Humane Society had come and taken them, Claire leaned over and asked me, "are they going to kill the puppies?"

I replied, "of course not. They'll try and find the owner, and if they can't then they'll put them up for adoption. They wouldn't kill puppies. Trust me, I used to volunteer at an animal shelter." Really, though, I didn't know. But puppies are much more likely to be adopted than older dogs, definitely. I'm sure they'll find a good home.
