Chapter 11
In the town of Pewter City, things looked like they were almost the same. Allies with lurking pokemon were every wheres, pokemon were hiding, humans were cruel, and the air had a eerie vive to it. Their was a slight difference though as he walked by. Around a few fields, some kids that were a lone had pokemon of their own...like the evil trainer with the dragons. Things weren't as bad as they were in Pallet Town, but they were still bad.
With the girl on Umbreon's back, he peered around the town to find a hospital, and quickly. Shops, parks, everything was here...but so far, no hospital. Umbreon stopped near a patch of flowers to smell their sweeting scent, only to get shooed away by the planter frantically. Only a few miles more, he came across a huge building with a sign that said 'Pewter Clinic - will help your problems for free'. So this must be the place, he thought as he stared at the massive building.
With Kate still on his back, he walked through the door and traveled to the front desk. Like any polite person would, he got in line and waited his turn. Even when he thought everything was going all right, something broke his moment of luck. The next guest that came in was about to get in line when he noticed the huge black cat standing in back of everybody. "People, watch out!" the girl freaked. "There's a pokemon in this clinic...and he hurt that poor girl!" Everybody in front of the pokemon, and everybody around him all ran to the entrance of the clinic as they panicked in fear. "Who let that dang thing in here!" guests had started to complain as they backed away.
Quickly, one of the nurses came out to help solve the problem. When she stared at the pokemon, she was about to shoo him away until she noticed the girl on his back. "Is that your trainer?" the girl asked politely as she bravely squatted down next to the pokemon. "That thing is evil!" one of the guests hiding shouted towards the nurse. "Now now..." replied the nurse. "No mater what species...if they respect us with respect, we must do the same for them." The crowd had stopped after her words as they all gazed at her make contact with the umbreon. "Is that your trainer?" the nurse asked again as she smiled sweetly at the pokemon. Umbreon nodded his head in fear as his emotions started to get the better of him. "You want us to heal the girl?" the nurse asked as she waited for a reply. With another nod from the pokemon, she picked up the girl from umbreon's back and guestered him to follow. Once he left the room, the crowd slowly walked back like everything was normal...just like it was a few moments ago. A few of them slightly changed their opinions after seeing what happened, but not many to matter.
The nurse walked into an empty room and laid the girl down on a flat bed. She took out her stethoscope and used it on Kate. As she bent down to listen, she heard Kate's heart beating slowly. "This ain't good," she quickly said as she ran to get a needle. The nurse then injected some fluids while the umbreon watched. He had suspension about the pointy object, but decided they were doing their job...this was the only way to save Kate, so he should trust the humans. After injecting some fluids into her body, she rushed to get some pills in the drawer. Once she found what she was looking for, she grabbed a cup to fill with water and walked back to Kate with both objects. First, she held the girl up for support. Once she was held up, she slid the pill in her mouth and then poured the water in her so the pill would float down safely. Once everything the nurse could do was completed, she told the umbreon, "Let the girl rest now. There's nothing more we can do. I'll be back in 30 minutes to check on her, I have other patients now to do." Umbreon stared at her as he listened to her talk. "Don't worry, will be back...we won't forget you." With that, the nurse opened the door and closed it quietly as she walked down the hall.
With each minute passing by on the clock, Umbreon stared at the girl as she suffered. He felt so bad for her. She was only protecting herself, and now it could cost her...her life. He thought about the moment he saw her hands glowing of healing power, and the moment she healed the beautifly with just one touch. Was she capable of healing herself? After deciding anything is better then waiting for a miracle, he leaped to the bed and held her hand by his two paws. As he leaned in, he placed her hand on her heart. Nothing had happened. Instead of giving up hope, he grabbed hold of her other hand and placed that one on her heart too. Once both of her hands were touching her heart, he waited for a moment as he stared. Nothing had happened. Disappointedly, he leaped to the ground as his hopes sailed away. Just as he began to stare up at Kate, her hands...they were...glowing? Like before, it was a blueish color that surrounded her whole hand. A few seconds later, the glowing stopped as Kate awakened and sat up.
"Where...am I?" she said as she looked around. Umbreon tried to keep back his feelings, but couldn't hold it any longer. Immediately, he leaped up to the bed and jumped on Kate as his tail wagged back and forth. "Hey buddy" the girl laughed as he continued to lick her face. A nurse appeared in the room as she heard ruckus going on from the outside. "Whats wrong?" asked the second nurse. "Nothing," replied the girl as she let out a chuckle. Umbreon quickly stood up as he waited for the girl to jump on. Once she was on his back, he leaped off the bed only to find the first nurse from before run in. "Woah...amazing recovery!" said the nurse as she stared in shock. Ten minutes ago, the girl had been suffering...now, she was laughing. "Yeah, I don't really know what happened...but we're going to go now. Bye!" said the girl as she looked down at Umbreon.
The nurse held the door open for them as they allowed them to walk freely. Once they reached the front door, they noticed the darkness had already creeped by...and Kate's belly was rumbling like a drum. He knew very well that if they were to walk out now, they would be jumped by the shadow pokemon lurking near by. "Its...sure dark..." said the girl as the continued to stare. Just then, the attendant from the front counter walked by and told them, "You guys can stay here for the night... if you want. Were open 24/7 with bedrooms available...its all free too." Kate looked down before agreeing to make sure it was okay. Once Umbreon gave her the okay, she replied "Yes please! Thank you." "Follow me" replied the lady.
Kate jumped off of her pokemon's back as she followed the lady. She showed her where the food court was, and then were their bedrooms were. People were gasping as they saw the dark pokemon, but didn't say a word. "Well, I'll be letting you get to your buisness....bye now." said the lady as she quickly left. "Lets go have a bite to eat" said Kate as she traveled back to the food court.
Once they arrived, they saw tons of food being served to people. It wasn't perfectly clean...but for free, it was sure great. Hailey traveled up to the line and checked out tomato soup with a burger. Umbreon picked out a few fruits, nobody carried pokefood these days anymore. Once they sat down together, they chowed down like they haven't eaten for a week. A few kids passing by had even told her she had a cool pokemon. Some even stopped to pet the friendly creature. Umbreon was sure gaining popularity with the clinic. Once they were done, they threw away their trash and headed towards their bedrooms.
Kate was getting very sleepy, she was used to sleeping at ten as that was when they had to hide. When they arrived at their bedrooms, Kate agreed to sleep at the bottom of the bunk bed while Umbreon was at the top. Kate tucked herself into her pink, comfortable, bed as she gazed in the room. Umbreon flicked the lights off as he jumped back to his bed. "Hey Umbreon...you know how I was going to name you?" Kate said. "I want to name you midnight. I found you at midnight, and your fur is as black as the night. What do you think of it?" she asked. A purring noise was then made, meaning he must of liked it. Kate chuckled as she said, "It's settled then...midnight it is!" With that, they fell asleep into the night.
