Chapter 10
Umbreon poked his head out of the hole, as he looked around the deserted place. Luckily, nobody had found them during the night. With the morning growing strong, Umbreon leaped back into the hole and carried the girl on his back as usual. Once he leaped out with Kate steadily on his back, he began to travel on the land.
Up and up the Umbreon ran, the land seemed to flow on for miles and miles. Their next goal was to get to Pewter City, one city away from cerulean; which was close by in view. As he continued on running for what seemed forever, a few trees that were growing apples had come into contact. Before he could take any, he stared up into the tree to make sure it wasn't invaded by any wild pokemon. Once several minutes had gone by and not a single movement was made, Umbreon slightly loosened his guard and came to the conclusion that it was safe.
Umbreon laid down on the ground, as the girl got the hint to get off his back. Once Kate had stepped off of him carefully, he leaped onto the branches inch by inch and once he landed onto a branch with apples; he traveled down the branch slowly and grabbed 3 juicy ones. With 3 apples being held by his tail, and 1 apple being held by his teeth, he leaped off the branch and jumped onto the ground.
As Umbreon released all 4 of the apples, he stared at the girl to find her looking as pale as a ghost. "Umbbbreee" spoke the pokemon as he tried to get her attention. Kate glanced down for a second to notice Umbreon paying attention to her, quickly she took her index finger and pointed up towards the sky. Umbreon glanced up in the bright sun to find a human riding a charizard and circling the girl. Umbreon could easily predict the charizard was getting ready for a fire spin attack....directed right towards the girl! With not a moment to spare, Umbreon dashed towards the girl and grabbed her by her shirt as he dragged her to safety. Like he expected, the charizard aimed a fire spin towards the girl seconds later after he had rescued Kate.
The human on the charizard rode the charizard down as they landed on the grass. As he jumped off, he shouted towards the girl, "So your a pokemon trainer I take it? Pretty pathetic having to be cared for by your own pokemon." Umbreon quickly leaped in front of the girl as he continued shouting at her, he wanted to protect her even though he didn't know it would only embarrass her more. "Ah ha! It is true...you dumb twit.." he had replied in response to Umbreon's actions. Umbreon wanted to attack the jerk right then and there, but Kate held onto his tail to stop him while she cupped her other hand in anger. "Well you know what..." Kate said in defense as intensity grew. "I can take care of myself, my pokemon are just nice enough to care about me! Yours are probable taken over by shadows!" she sneered. "Oh really?" the man snapped. "I hate little girls like you, lets prove your spirit to the test with a battle!" he stated. Quickly, the man recalled his charizard and sent out a dragonite, one of the most powerful dragon pokemon in the world. He must be a G-4 pokemon trainer, she thought as she stared at the second dragon pokemon he sent out. Kate then stared at the Umbreon that was still in front of her, she knew he was plenty strong...but was she strong enough to support him in a battle? Before she even thought about backing out, she leaned down and whispered to Umbreon, "You wanna battle this creep?" Like expected, Umbreon shook his head up and down to let her know he wanted to battle. To prove Kate's worthiness to Umbreon, Kate decided to continue the battle. "Before we begin," Kate had spoken. "What's your name?" "My nickname is Spade, but you shall never know my real name." he had replied. "My name is Kate" responded Kate. "I don't care what your name is!" replied the man.
A few seconds later, Kate saw Spade hop onto his dragonite as they entered the battlefield. "This is a battle, what are you doing?" asked Kate as she gave a puzzled look. "You dumb twit, I am a dragon trainer. When I battle, I want to prove not only my pokemon's worth... but also my own. Now get on your umbreon and lets fight!" Spade replied. Kate looked down again at Umbreon again, as she saw umbreon glance back up at her and give her a worried look. "I can't ride him!" "He may be able to carry me from place to place...but I could never expect him to carry me in a battle! You know he isn't a dragon!" Kate responded. "Very well," replied the man. Not a moment to soon, he leaped off of his dragonite and called out his salamence. Spade stared at the salamence looking back at him, as he said to it "Let this girl over here ride you and battle my dragonite." Like a professional trainer would, he leaped back onto his dragonite and eyed the girl as she stared back in fear. "Too chicken, eh?" cackled the man. "No!" cried the girl as she almost let her tears slip. Before she crawled onto the mans salamence, she checked in with her umbreon to make sure it was okay with him. Umbreon began to nod his head slowly as he felt a cold chill flow through him, even though he had nothing to worry....he was worried for the girls sake.
With Spade waiting for Kate to hop aboard his salamence, Kate began remembering thoughts from the past in her mind. You poor girl...you'll never make it...you aren't worth a dime...go do us a favor and die....stop loving those demons...get a way from our world...you freak... With every sentence she remembered that people had told her in the past, she felt an angry ambition flow through her veins. Beating Spade with his own game will not only prove herself of a worthy trainer to Umbreon, but will also prove herself to everybody else in the world whose called her a failure; she is not a coward and she will never back down. Such intense words for an 8 year old. With her mind intense, she stared up at the huge dragon - like salamence she was about to a board. "I can do it, have faith in me" she whispered to Umbreon as she climbed to the top of the green dragon.
Once she was positioned above his wings, she grasped onto his neck as the salamence bolted off of the ground and flew in the air. "So you made it on the pokemon safely, now lets see if you can survive without dieing." the man chuckled, as his dragonite then left the ground. "Kate, you can have the first move." he stated. "Proudly, sir! Okay salamence...fire blast!" Finally, Kate's very first battle has begun! Salamence releases a powerful fire blast as the dragonite quickly dodges it by sailing up in the sky farther. Once Kate was startled by the movement from being in the air as her salamence was flying all around, Spade told his dragonite, "Tackle followed by thunder bolt." From below, Umbreon stared up as he know what that meant, but there was nothing he could do....except watch and pray for her safety.
Spade's dragonite crashed right into the salamence as Kate held on for dear life, a violent shake was forced during the crash causing her to almost let go. The moment dragon left, he sored a thunder bolt their way. The impact was too close for them to dodge, they couldn't escape. As her salamence shook off the thunderbolt, Kate was left in a very frightened state. The thunder bolt she felt made her whole body shake like mad as she screamed in pain. With salamence not knowing what to do, Spade's dragonite went in for another surprise tackle attack. The second impact caused Kate to fall off the salamence and crash towards the ground. Luckily, Umbreon was able to catch her in the nick of time as she fell on top of his body. With all her might, she told the umbreon, "I have failed you...I'm so sorry." Soon after, the girl had blacked out from the pain of the electricity.
"Ahahahahahaha" laughed the man as he too came down towards the ground, and returned his dragons. "I knew you couldn't defeat them, you're too little. You stupid girl, stop acting like your all grown up," he sneered. Spade had felt no feelings for the girl, even as she fainted towards her doom. The man was as cold as any shadow pokemon could be. In Kate's defense, Umbreon alerted himself into a position that would usually mean....back off! "Awww. You poor thing, believe me... you don't want to know my most powerful pokemon. It would kill you in an instant. I feel sorry for you, you have to care for a dumb trainer." he said as he laughed. With that, the man flew away back on his charizard as he sailed into the gloomy sky.
Umbreon looked at the girls condition, and freaked about what to do. If he didn't act fast, his trainer could die because of a pathetic person. He remembered the healing power she once possessed, but he very well knew she most likely couldn't use it on herself...especially when she is not awake. As he stared back to where he was once heading, he imagined they would have a hospital in town. With that, he sailed down the road as fast as possible.
Running mile after mile, he sailed through the ground. With each step taken was an inch towards their goal. More then ever now, he wanted to arrive. Finally after half an hour of running and dashing, he came into the town he was aimed for....at last.
Umbreon poked his head out of the hole, as he looked around the deserted place. Luckily, nobody had found them during the night.
