Sarcasm in a Can
This journal has sarcasm, notes, scribblings, cans, and rantings. All packed in a small 5 x 5 journal bound between two smashed cans. The front is a tin can previously containing fruit, and the back unknown. Read at own risk.

I feel a lot better now , not fully, but loads better. I got some good advice in the past few days about what art really is about. I might go through with the auction with Amy, but I'm not completley sure I'm ready for such a large step. Anyway, recently I did my second ever background CGed piccu. In some ways, I think it's not so bad, but in other ways I feel I got really sloppy with it and it's ugly. >o< Your crits and comments, please? x0

I have two versions, one with white paint daubs and one without. This is for a contest on gaia, so your crits will really be helpful. =)

First copy has no daubs, second does.

well it doesn't look sloppy hun. I love the way you did the folds in the kimono, mainly b/c I'm jealous. I soooo suck at giving clothing depth xd

The eye is also amazing. And the proportion is all good too smile

My only critique would be on the fact that the lineart blends in in some places and doesn't in others. I probably notice that b/c I'm a huge fan of almost anything with crisp lineart, so I notice when it's lacking. But that's more of a personal opinion than anything else xd

Everytime I see a new art style thingy by you I always get more and more amazed by your skill. Its sooo good! heart xd
Kimono folds = heart
Cat ears = heart
Design on the kimono = heart
Background = heart heart (I really like how you dimmed the farther lanterns to add depth)

The only suggestions I have are to mebbe add another level of shading to the kimono? Just some dabs of a very light purple or blue.
Also, I like the white paint daubs better. Maybe you can add some glow and have brighter ones in the foreground and dimmer ones in the background so they look like they're dancing around her?

c&c!!!
i love doing and recieving c&c

usually i do it brutally -im weird-

disclaimers: whatever i say from this point, please take it as a constructive cristsms, and constructive critisms only. so please do not take it offensively, because thats not why i wrote this:

#1: i personally dont like the dabs, because there are some dabs that belong and some doesnt. Or if you fixed it, it would belong. just an opinion.

like the on the crease of her left sleeve seems like you just put it there, because you wanted to put more dabs. or make it glowy or blending like piggies said. But for now i like the original

#2: like Elindranyth said, there are lineart showing, and then not. just a suggestion, if you want to make the line art show completly do that. If you dont want to then dont. But if you want to mix it, balance it out. Like maybe her skin lines and the background can be lined. While the rest are cged over.

#3: im sorry if i wasnt allowed to do this... but i could demonstrate w/o doing this. excuse my lack of english skillz.
corrections

click that and follow = 3= <3

- the hair is fine on her face, but it seems a tad big for her head. and if you move the hair like i did, then you need to move the cat ears to make it fit into the picture.

-if you want to make this piccy anime-ish with hint of realism, you need to pick a light source, where it comes from, and stay with it. every part with highlights and shadow is fine. But her hair that is covering her eyes has higlights (the part thats white) away from the light source.

-i forgot to redraw that one part, but im assuming that she is looking at us while her body is tilting slightly away from us right? well, for that, HER left shoulder should be up a bit.. i forgot to inlude that in. If you go along with that shoulder bit, her other shoulder should show a tad bit too.

-indicating by the clothing depth of her left arm-kimono sleeve, it shows that her arm goes all the way to sort of the end of the elbow area of the sleeve. or the cg is covering part of the line art that would make her arm okay. either way if you dont fix one or the other problem, her arm looks too long.

-proportionally (dont believe me in this part, im not all that good either =__=)
her waist is too low for her body. IF shes sort of leaning this comment is useless, but if she's just standing up, then some sort of change in needed... like i said dont believe me in this >> of course if you follow this, some stuff will be needed to move like the cat tail, the ribbon, etc

-her eyes are below her nose. The big eye things, i dont mind, but usually people's eyes are above the nose tip. me, my friend, and couple other good friends, we all used to make that mistake. We changed it, doesnt mean you need to.

i need to sleep.... so i'll leave you with this... REMEMBER, THIS IS YOUR STYLE. WHATEVER I JUST WRITTEN DOWN DOESNT MEAN IT NEEDS TO BE FIXED. Its your piece of art. Not mine. whether you take some c&c i wrote down for you, is up to you to take it. If you dont agree with what i wrote, because you meant to draw it that way, well then dont listen to me. i just love doing c&c for people who ask for them, because i want them to get better at what they do, and if i could help them by taking 5min to 1hr to do it, i will do it. Hope this helped. x]

gawd... i wrote so much = __=

well this is how much my friend used to crit me on each stuff i did, i did for another friend when she was starting out, and now we are all better at what we do. IF what i wrote seems harsh.. im sorry >>

anyways i hope you at least look over them at least.
I dont know i would like to recieve a feedback like that when i ask how does my stuff look like, since i never get feedbacks, that im expressing and pollution all over your journal.

Piggies: ^^ Thank you for the comments. I will definately try out the new techniques you suggested for me when I get home. (at a friends house at the moment)

Vio: n____n I completely appreciate your C&C and and in no way do I find it offensive. =)
Maybe I should have given some background info about the piccie.
Her Pose + Positioning: Waist up, she is leaning forward and her back is in an arch curve so her lower waist down is farther back than waist up. It doesn't show up very well because here sleeves are really baggy/big. She's looking back at us and her body is at a sort of 3/4ths view. I totally should fix the arm so it looks a bit more correct anatomy-wise. ^^; My fault. As for the eyes, I always have been drawing them super large and the nose-tip has always been just a little farther but pretty level with where the eyes end...Kinda a style thing for me.
Light Source + Daubs: The light source is shining from the left, coming down towards the top. Maybe I should have made the more white part to the left instead of center but... eh. Her hair was originally pretty pouffy being kinda the mix between an OC and a gaian avatar. On the paint daubs, this is my first time trying out this technique. My art teacher suggest that I try some textures and sort of watercolor and paint feel to it so I decided to give it a try. As if the placement they were totally random. Kinda something you don't have control over IRL either.
I really appreciate your crits though, I think they really helped my notice a few things. <333

Which reminds me, I have to really outline it. Question though (since up until now the lineart layer has always been the first one since I didn't bother outlining after scan) is all of it black? Or the clothing part a darker shade of the clothing's color? (not including the lighter parts which will be lightly dimmed for effect)

oh thank goodness <3

okay still even if she was leaning, her left shoulderblade of the kimono looks too big on her...

and like i said, if that is your style, its your style!
if you change your style just because what i said, well i would get mad at you and feel stupid = 3=;;

pouffy=poofy? or a diff word in general?
eh, if you like the highlights like that leave it
just saying if doesnt necessary go with the light flow.

oh well if you were purposely trying to make it random
...wow oxymoron

then once again dont listen to me = 3=
though i still like the original.

3nodding

and answer to that question:
well that depends on the piccy itself. with its color, texture, depth, etc

so here is yet another opinion/suggestion:

make the skin, hair, inanimated objects outlined black. thin, thick, what ever that you think belongs. perhaps skin and hair has thinner outline than the objects. or something like that. and the lamp has those red things most of the time on the outside correct? well those i dont think you should outline in black. rather cover the whole red part of lamp in red. Dont show the lineart at all there.

and the clothings, since its already hard to tell the outline, make the outline a darker color of the kimono. of course common sense here but, dont make it so much darker red/yellow that it is standing out.

and along the creases of the clothing would probably have the same color of the outline for clothes. or something along that line....

hope this clearify few things?

and im glad i helped, even if it was just few things <3

lastly let me add two more thing. i would suggest to making the bow behind her now a thicker version of shoelace "bow". if you get what i mean.
if you look up the kimonos (or at least the ones i ve seen) the ribbon would be bigger, and it would sort of stick to the person-ish.

because im dumb, and forgot to add this in the earlier post. i like your background.
its soft and warm. gives you a nice comfy feeling. and fading out those few lamp things back is good. just make one or two in the front with outline to make things clean and clear. and when you originally said it was sloppy, imnot going to lie. there are few things to make it clean-er.
but once you do that to the whole piece, i think it would look more serious (not so much, but somewhat) instead of the nice, compfy, playful look that i think youre aiming for.

well thats it... once again a short comment gone long T___T
if you need any more c&c
just pm me, or something >D
ill do it!
