It had been years and years since Ayame and Seraphim had last been seen by their family and friends at the Castle Hellsing. They had missed so much: birthdays and holidays and anniversaries. Though they missed none of it intentionally, the fact still remained that they has lost so much time. But what is time to half-breed vampires: one with tainted fire demon blood and the other with tainted dragon blood. They had eternity. But this still didn't make them feel any less guilty for walking out on their family and friends on that cold winter night. Seraphim and Ayame had no other choice. They weren't going to allow evil to threaten the only family either of them had ever really had. So the seasons changed back at Castle Hellsing without them. One night, Ayame and Seraphim sat talking with each other in the cold, hovering over a small fire Seraphim had built for them in the forest. Ayame's green eyes gleamed in the firelight. Her face emanated a soft glow, even after all that they had been through since they left the place they called "home". Seraphim's gentle eyes seemed to caress her image in the darkness.
"Ayame," he called to her quietly.
She turned to him, looking like an angel who mysteriously appeared from heaven. At least, that's what he thought. She hadn't aged a day since they left. Granted, when he thought back, she still looked the same as she did the day they had first met. He hadn't changed much. He was still tall, but was slightly more built than he had been before. This time, their adventure called for a lot of his protecting the woman he loved. Either way, he would protect her till the day he died, whether the situation called for it or not. His dark green eyes met hers, and a small smile appeared on his face. Ayame curled up closer to him, and he instinctively held her more tightly. Nothing would ever break them apart.
"It's been a long and strange journey, hasn't it my love," she asked as she watched the flames lick the freshly cut wood.
Seraphim nodded and his smile lessened.
"Such a shame."
He couldn't even finish his sentence; he was so disgusted. Ayame clung to him more tightly and looked up at him.
"It's over now. No one could've known that the vampire claiming to be my brother was an imposter. You and I both thought that he was truly my brother. Something about him just..."
She shook her head.
"Either way. It's done now. My brother's imposter is dead along with all of his followers who tried to kill those ones most precious to us."
Her lover nodded once more and ran his fingers through her long brown hair which now hung loosely about her shoulders.
"I love you, Ayame."
"I love you too, Seraphim."
The two looked deeply into each other's eyes and smiled. Their love ran deeper now than it ever had before. After a moment of silence, Seraphim spoke once more, this time, looking up at the stars as he spoke.
"You know, Ayame, we'll be back home again tomorrow."
Ayame laughed and looked up at the stars with him.
"I suppose... imagine what it's going to be like. Do you think they'll remember us?"
Seraphim nodded.
"And think about the children, Seras and Eric," Ayame said excitedly. "They'll be full grown by now. I'm sure Eric will be angelically handsome and Seras... she'll look just like her mother. I wonder how they're all doing right now... if they've thought about us."
"I'm sure they have," her lover replied, holding her closer to him to keep her warm now that the fire was dying out. "I think it's about time you go to bed though. We're leaving early in the morning."
She nodded sleepily. Closing her eyes, Ayame yawned and leaned against her night in shining armor. The last thought that crossed her mind before she drifted off was, 'Tomorrow... we'll all be together again.'
