Strays
Sometimes it can feel so good to walk away from the straight and narrow path. It can be good to be a stray.
SPOILERS ABOUT GOBLET OF FIRE
So, I just got home from Goblet of Fire. It started around midnight, and it's now about 3 in the morning.

I must say, the beginning of the movie disappointed me somewhat. It starts pretty faithfully to the book, with the old man getting whacked and Harry's nightmare. But Harry wakes up in the Weasley's home, not the Durslys. From there, they take you to the world cup. I must say, that scene was beautiful. They taunt you with it however, by not actually playing the match. Then something that's very unfaithful occurs. Death Eaters attack and burn the camp to the ground. Now if memory serves me correctly, a squad of Death Eaters don't waltz thru town in the book. Barty Crouch just gets ahold of Harry's wand and casts the Dark Mark. From there it cuts to the train to Hogwarts. And as soon as they arrive, the other two schools arrive as well.

From that point on it's fairly faithful to the book, although several things were cut out. Such as S.P.E.W. , the kitchen, and various other details. Truthfully, I wouldn't go see the movie again. It just doesn't live up to the book at all. The movie is more like a quick over view of the book, getting only the highlights. Personally, I would have loved to have seen the World Cup match, rather than Harry's attempt to save Ron and Fleur's sister. And they cut out the damn Sphinx from the maze! I was so looking forward to that damned Sphinx. Eh, I hate how Hollywood can take a great thing and turn it into tripe.

My rating of the Movie is a C+. It's a good movie if you're only looking for a basic summary of the book, otherwise just keep to the book on this one.

Sidenote: I bought the second book of the Dark Tower Series. Can't wait to start reading it.

Eh, I'm not really looking forward to any HP movies and I haven't been-- not since I suffered through movie 3.

DT-B2 Sidenote: Book two wasn't my favorite out of the series, that's for sure. Personally.. It was a slow read, sort of. Nevertheless, it wasn't a bad book; I just liked the Gunslinger better.

That really sucks. I mean, first of all S.P.E.W. is a pretty important thing, and it is mentioned often. It also develops Hermione's personality a lot. I wonder if they'll continue to cut out the Dursleys? I doubt they want to include them anymore, which in and of itself makes me mad. I was kinda looking forward to this movie, and was excited to see it. Now, not so much. I'll still go to watch it, and prolly enjoy it, but I'll still be rather pissed. Not as bad as Ella Enchanted, though. That totally failed in everyones mind (who had read the book)

Well... here's my reasoning I guess, I've left the movie theaters many times feeling cheated out of my expectations, cursing the film for not being how I imagined it to be. But y'know, there are certain aspects of the film industry that are essential to building a successful movie. One of those factors is film length. Rowling writes a lot.

You can't expect a... what was number four's page count again?

Hollywood can't squeeze it all in. Sure the Harry Potter fans will point out that the movie never stays true to the book, but that is because they can't make the movie too long otherwise no one will see it, and they can't include everything and make it the same length because scenes would undoubtedly be rushed to the maximum, leaving no satisfaction with viewers.

It's difficult, yes, but the minor details -- Like S.P.E.W. -- won't be important in the next book and the latest one even, so they're not worth mentioning. And while there may be inconsistencies, like the Death Eaters and Harry waking up in the Weasley's home, the main point of the film was to entertain. I hope it did.

Edit: Nonetheless, I probably won't see it. I never have the time. sweatdrop

Well, there were also a lot of other things left out. Sirius was supposed to be in there a lot and was only in there once. They neglected Draco's presence, and many other things. I've spent too much time discussing it to even restate everything anymore. In my opinion, though, it's prolly the new director. He changed a lot of things...
