Kendo Sparring for the hell of it
Surprising what Sparring does. Espiecially done with friends you trust.

I have and niether does my friends have previouse taught experience in Kendo. We want to but.....simply....MONEY!

On sunday a friend and I went just to do that, although we sparred with no gear on or cup. On top of that we are not using fists.....well....actuelly using that kicking in tandum (I like that word now) with sword play. We use Shinais, which are four strips of bamboo tied togather with some type of leather or cow skin......I don't know?
Anyways the practice sword are not solid would which is good cause it won't break bones. The most it will do is bruise or break skin. The bamboo collapses and takes in the impact basically. Still freakin hurts but ain't fatal if smacked on the head. Believe me, it has happened......rather that happen more often then them smacking me between the legs. Regretably has happened, thank god never a direct hit.

It might seem Sadistic by us putting in ourselves in that kind of pain. Surprising it helps developing going beyond the fear of getting hurt.

Experience speaks that if I fear getting hit I won't get my opponent. That goes with life, if you fear pain then nothing ever gets done. Regret is the biggest pain.

I am sure this type of thing is heard alot but I like to repeat these epiphanies(sp?) of mine.

During our little duals I have also noticed if we think too much of the battle we/I tend to over think steps. Finally when I 'winged' it I got more hits and less wasted movement. Have to think not of the fight to win the fight. It was a great feeling of accomplishment of just having a pure stand off of clashing of the swords. Even if we did not hit each other we really REALLY went at it. It started to get some audiences in the park. It was quite funny cause when that usually happens we get self-consciouse...or....atleast I do.

Nearing the end of our time I started to really waste no time and rush into it. At the sametime I mixed things up and actuelly faked movements to get a clear strike at my friend. I did some movements without even thinking.
Just simply "******** awsome" ran through my head. Even though I was dead tired, my diaphram started to burn and I started to lose breath....I wanted to keep on going. My friend could not go any longer. The adreneline in me was so much it lasted hours.

I waited at the bus pacing back and forth with such an eagerness to do it again. I rarly experience such a clarity during these spars. Officially....I am at a new level.

( I swear play too much games, relating life like a RPG. I have gained Carpentry Job and attained leve 9 and soon will upgrade to the next job level to a 1st year Apprentice. I have worked on leveling up my Layout, hammering, wood working, and even framing skills!
Thank you Ragnorak!)

No question of the day except:
