Chapter 1
The Beginings

The bright colors of dawns early light shone into the large room through the non-glassed windows, reflecting a radient light upon the childs face. Gathered around its crib, the council of the elven kingdom of Elindillia watched the child silently, their features full of both dread and hop. Inside the criib lay a tiny baby girl, whose eyes were closed light slumber and whose body was clad in a long white gown. The mother lay in bed beside her, a crown of jewls upon her brow with golden sprial curls around her perfect features.
A council member stepped forward, touching the newly born princess's brow gently with a small, saddened smile. He was younger than the rest, and was indeed the childs brother. Man of the family he was, for the father had been murdered by the rulers of the acussed Dazz. Pain shown in the younge he -elfs eyes as the eldest of the council members sope to the child. It was words of which he did not want to hear, words that could make any many feel pain.
"You hold the fate for us all, little one." he said in a soft, kind tone. "But not just fate of the elves of this kingdom, this world, but the fate of all creatures. Such a heavy weight for one so small. Yet you are the daughter of Helatoh, daughter of a king. He who is gone from this world, he who would not have perished, gives you streangth."
The mother, who was weakened from the birth of her child, felt glistening tears form into her green eyes at the mention of her deseaced husband. He had traveled as she had requested, with much reluctancy, to find the Weilder, to save their daughter, and at the time unborn child, from the fate destined to be given. Word soon spread of his demise, but no body was ever discovered.
Her thoughts were gladly interupted by the sound of the babe wimpering. As her eyes opened , the council nodded gravely. The babes eyes were an ice blue, with tints of yellow thrown into them. It was as the Weilder said. She was chosen to be the one of light. The one to save the world from being thrown into darkness, plunged into a world without any light to sooth them.
"Her name, Selen," one member said. "It must hold dignity, and grace, courage...."
"I have already chose.." Selen, the mother, told the m softly.
"And what is it?"
"Thetra. It is Thetra Katrina."
"But it sounds so....so....so mortal! So uncalued and simple Selen!"
"Oh Macnar....it has a special meaning, that no one shall ever really know..."

The moon in the sky was not seen on this night of his birth. In the Kingdom of Dazz, in the darkened castle that haughnted so many dreams, no celebration was held for the babe, no one to comfort him as he cried. Both his parents, both tall , pale, and ravened haired, stood watching him as if he were not their own. As if he were merely an imbomination. It was no suprise to those who knew them either. This is how they treated everyone that stood in their way.
"Such weakness..." the father scoffed. "how could such weakness be a son of mine? Its not natural...he's not natural!"
"Hush Alazar....he is but a child yet. The crying is a good sign. Have you not seen the tears?"
Indeed, the tears wre a sign, and from the Weilder even, for the tears were stained with red. Tey they were not stained with blood. The baby, who was still new to this world, had not earned his weight in blood. The people now standing behind the two darkened parents of this child of evil stared in complete awe.
"all hail, the new true lord of Dazzion." one murmured with a softened, but deepened voice.
The babes father turned swiftly, his shoulder-leangth raven hair flowing as he did. Some caught sight of the man's ears. The tips were pointed, and one was pierced with a blackened hoop. Many pondered over this. What creature was he? It was said King Alazar turned human for one night, so that his child would indeed be human. And this appeared to have worked, fot the child was human, as far as they could tell.
"Alazar, my love?" the mother, Lilith, asked softly.
Alazar gazed upon Lilith, a smile, which frightened even her, on his features.
"walk with me my dear wife." he whispered, holding out his hand for her own to take.
It slipped into his with a terrifying, yet wonderful grace. Alazar led her away from the group gawking at the childd, away from the now silent babe. Weak as she was, Lilith never missed a step, never missed a fluent moment he made. Alazar expected nothing less, for this woman was to be strong, no matter what condition she was in. Lilith was a lady of power. It was to be expected his queen be as strong as he. Just like his last wife....
They halted on the black stoned balconey, that over looked the broken lands. Fine manchions stood at every corner, some black, some red, but never white. Below them in the courtyard of stone, many subjects had gathered under the moon of all species. Drows, vampires, black-hearted immortals, humans, demons...all their subjects.
"The child is born." Alazar announced to the crowd, who all hissed in pleasure. "Tonight is ours, the prophecy is being fufilled...."
More hisses, demonic howls, but this time, in anger. The Weilder had caused them grief for to long, and now it was time for their revenge.
"At the stroak of midnight, SHE is ours!!!"

Angry shouts trailed the air after her, gaining yet not. Her mind was stonger than theirs, but she was alone in this fight. Alone to protect her child born at the dawn. Selen did not gasp for breaths as her silent bare feet glided across the ground, but her body ached for the energy she had before this child. She prayed for the safty of her. But no safty would come until she reached the Winter Forest.
Black tipped arrows flew at her, but with her agility, non even grazed her fair pale skin. She was, for the first time in her long life, frightened. Frightened of herself, of them, and of the power this baby in her arms held.
"Helatoh, please....protect me...."
But this plea went unanswered as a poison tipped black arrow went into her shoulder. A small cry escaped her lips, and Thetra opened her large eyes. The beautiful blue/yellow eyes gazed upon her wounded mother, who continued running, for she had found the Winter Forest. The white light and snow made it a place of pure light....an honorable place to draw her final breaths.
Angry screaches, howls, filled the air as Selen entered the safe haven. A smile passed over her lips. They....Thetra was safe.
"I will not last the night little one." Selen whispered as she sat in the mystic snow, beside a hollow tree. "I did this for you....for the world."
Tears filled her large eyes as Thetra gently grasped her mothers slender finger. The child was so innocent, and would never really know her mother, if they were not found now. It was a horrible fate for someone who knew not why they had been brought into this world as of yet.
"I didn't want this Thetra....I didn't want you to hold the worlds fate in your hands. All your life you will be hunted. All your life you will feel alone. Do not be afraid, for I will always be with you...."
Night continued onward, and Selen grew weaker still as the poisons began to take its deadly toll. She knew she hadn't long, knew the immortal life was edging away. Thetra stirred in her arms, having just finished feeding from her mother. Selen felt the need to protect her daughter even more so now, and not because of the Weilders words...because she was hers.
Darkness overtook Selen, Thetra still bundled tightly in her arms. The light of the forest dimmed for a moment, signaling the entrance of two types of races. One race was none other than the elven kingdom that Thetra had been born into. Her brother emerged, entering the childs veiw, who squirmed slightly in the limp mothers arms.
On the opposite side, an adult human man, whose features as elf like as any humans could possibly be. A child, looking to be around the age of five mortal years, clung to his leg, looking around at the glowing forest with wonder. Both males stared upon one another, as if trying to decide upon an answer.
"Greetings, Thamar." The elf said. "Thank you for coming."
"I felt her distress, but apparantly I came to late"
"Do not say such things, she still lives."
"And you are here. You will take her?"
"Yes....but you must take the child with you."
For a moment, Thamar did not belive his elf friend. Never had a mortal such as he been asked to do such a thing. His eyes wandered to the child in wonder, as his son's eyes held no more than his own.
"You ask a mortal to raise an immortal, friend?" Thamar asked softly.
"Yes. I do. Please Thamar as a friend. I need someone no one would expect, to take care of this child, MY sister, and hide her away from the world. She needs protection...."
"Surely you people...."
"Do you not see what has happened?! Whoever leads them knows every turn, every crack, of our city....You even have a child of your own."
This Thamar nodded to. Indeed he had a child, the boy clinging to his leg. But Thamar's wife was dnagerously ill. He knew not if he would be able to properly care for his child, Aaron, while caring for this other child aswell. Nor did he want to naglect him.
"I will do it." he whispered, knealing before the deathly ill woman and taking Thetra in his arms.
"Thank you, my friend." the he-elf said, lifting his own mother. "i do not know how long this will be for..."
"Fear not. I'll treat her as if she were my own daughter."
The two departed, and Thamar looked down upon the child. Aaron, his only son, tugged upon his pants leg, gently, his reddish brown hair falling slightly into his eyes.
"Papa..papa is she coming home with us?" the boy asked.
"yes son."
"But why papa? Is something Wrong?"
"Oh yes, son. Everything is wrong. The world is wrong."
"how is the world wrong? Is it broken?"
"Yes, you could say that. The world is broken in two, once side good, the other evil. We are trying to fix it, make it all good."
"Is she good Papa?"
"Oh yes son....she is very, very good."
"What's her name?"
"her name? Her name is...."

"Thetra."
Alazar sat upon his cold stone throne, wife at his side and assasin knealing before him. He was not at all pleased at the moment. Word had spread that the wife of the late Helatoh had feld Elindillia, taking the infant with her. Demons had followed, leaving the town to the few left who wished to stay. They had known about Winter Forest, but knew not they were so close. Striking her with a poison arrow was the best they could do, leaving the she-elf to die with the child. But scouts have seen otherwise.
They told Alazar not long after the assasination attempt, Selen's son Almar entered the forest, and exited with Selen's limp, nearly lifeless body. But there was no child. Little did he know, at the opposite end of the forest, Thamar exited with the baby Thetra, and his own son.
"A baby and a half dead she-elf outwits my finest assasin!" Alazar roared, clentching the arms of his throne tightly. It was clearly evident to all those around he was on the verge of a murderous rage.
"You dare come back here, after failing at such a task so important! You knew if the elves did not kill you, I would!"
"Alazar...." lilith whispered, touching his hand with her own gently. "Calm. We still have use for the weakling. Don't be at such haste to destroy him yet."
"We have no use for failure! No room for such weakness in our kingdom."
"We have no other."
This was true, for in a few fits of rage, Alazar had killed them, and this time was no differant. He had fully intended to kill the man before him, but once again, Lilith had put some sence into him.
"Yes.....you are right, my queen." He sighed, shaking his head. "You are spared for now.....leave."
The assasin scrambled to his feet, fear in his eyes as he bowed to the king, who scoffed. He then quickly left, and Alazar relaxed a bit. He looked tired, worn out....but not old. He nor his queen ever apperared old. Why was that? no one knew...only them. And they shared their secrets with no one.
"Where is my son?" he bellowed, never stirring from his seat on his trone.
As if standing right outside the door, an elderly woman, whose grey hair lay in a bun on the top of her head, entered the throne room. Dressed in a fine dress she was, but still ragged she looked. In her arms she held the child born only a few hours before. He now was sleeping soundly, and his features more seen, more visible now. The elderly nurse handed the child into the outstretched arms of Lilither, curtseying and bowing as she backed away.
"His name my queen?" Alazar asked, looking upon his sleeping son.
"Jahgel."
"A fitting name Lilith. Bold, demanding, and has never been used."
"Yes, your highness. Thank you. I hoped you would find it pleasing..."
Alazar gave a smile, taking her free hand in his own and bringing it to her lips. He kissed the pale smooth skin softly with his smooth pink lips. His eyes showed a softness it hadn't in years, passion that had been lost...
"You glow, my love, and your beauty is overwhelming."
"Alazar...." Lilith whispered, her pale cheeks flushing slightly. "You haven't spoken like this to me in many months."
"It is time I started again, my love...my beauty of darkness and of the night."
Lilith smiled knowingly at him but said nothing, for her son had stirred into conciousness to the world, his eyes gazing upon them with their nearly black color and hidden wonder. Alazar chuckled as he lifted his son, Jahgel, onto his lap.
"You, my son, hold the power of the world. You alone control darkness, and soon the light. And you in the end must face the girl, kill the girl....Thetra."
