I got Requiem for a Dream from the library a few weeks back. At first the writing style was a bit much to handle. As in no paragraphs, no quotation marks, run on sentences to die for but eventually you get a handle of who's talking when.
The first part is not that bad, but a little past the half way point you realize where the book is taking you and I wanted to finish it as fast as possible. Not because it is bad, but because it is so honest.
You have Harry with the gaping wound in his arm willing to still shoot drugs and Sara, oh I felt horrible for Sara. While you feel sympathy for all of them, I felt the most for Sara because at the end things were happening that were beyond her control and it just didn't seem fair.
If you are willing to get a brutally honest look at these characters I highly recommend the book.
Also the movie, just got a change to watch it. It wasn't until the credits started to roll when the "Oh my god..." moment hit me and I started crying. It was an amazing movie. While there were a few things I wouldn't have liked to see stay true to the book, overall it was as close to the book as the movie could get.
