What's the point of parades? I know they're usually to celebrate something, but why like that? People and decorated cars move slowly along the streets for a few miles, playing music, smiling, blahblahblah you get it.

I don't understand the concept, something happens or it's a time of year and people give traffic a big middle finger, blocking up the road for possibly a few miles with their festivities while people sit on the sidewalk to watch. WHY!? What's so interesting about decorated cars and school bands/radios?

That's another thing, some of the floats just set a "beatbox" on top of the thing and have it play as they sit by waving and otherwise doing jack s#%t. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a big fan of bands, and if they're going to go through the streets hurling "popular music I don't care to hear again"'s greatest hits, they may as well play the actual song rather than butchering it themselves, but that doesn't fix the problem of looking like a lazy retard.

Still, I don't understand why people cheer as things crawl by.
"hooray, they took 4 hours to dress up a car to be used once, have the decorations torn off, and burned afterwards!"
What the hell is so awe inspiring? Not to seem pessimistic, but seems like an excuse to sit on the street and get drunk for an hour or so as it goes by, like a party everyone was invited to, but there was no address on the bottom of the card.

BOTTOM LINE: I really don't get parades.
