The cobra's fangs glistened in the moonlight. Its great hood was spread open like a canopy, ready to defy its prey of life. Venom dripped from it's mouth, small drops leaving a deadly trail on the dusty ground. Eyes filled with the color of prey's blood were locked on a plump mouse ten paces ahead. The mouse was unaware of it's hunter and was searching under a tree for that last nut for winter. It's tiny claws scraped soudlessly on the upraised roots of the towering beech untill it finally spoted it's target. It scurried on and began to nibble. The sleek, black snake rocked noiselessly in the bright night and its smooth tail twitched with anticipation. Against the bright moon it was a mere black outline but in reality it was death to many and tonight would be no exception. With fluid, silent movements it began to creep forward, its head still poised to strike.
