I havent written in a while but Ive been thinking alot lately.
Alot about conformity and how we do it for all the wrong reasons.
When you conform because you want to be like someone youre not, or to get somewhere you wouldnt be able to go without changing your way of thinking, thats conforming for all the wrong reasons.
Because conformity is unavoidable, we all have to do it sometime. But when you do, conform to something you believe in. Be it religion, a new lifestyle...whatever. Do it for you, not for everyone else.
Me for example:
When I was younger, I wanted to be popular and cool and liked. So I changed. I became something I didnt like.
It took a while, but I got back to what Id been before I slipped into the wrong side of conformity.
Now, I couldnt give a rat's doo-doo hole what other people think of me. The only people who impact my thinking these days are my friends and family. Everyone else can piss up a rope.
The reason we feel the need to conform the wrong way if because we all want to be liked. We want others to see the best things in us rather than the things that arent so great. Society teaches that only the good parts are worth showing. But the people who you should really care about are the ones who take the good with the bad. The people who would be with you whether or not you wear the clothing trends they like, or listen to the same music they do.
Its so easy to just conform. Thats another reason we are tempted by conformity. Because the way people look at you is dependant on how you present yourself. If you present yourself the same way the "popular" crowd does, then they dont see you as a threat. They wont make fun of you or even torment you if you appear to think the same way they do.
So, as a last little bit, you cant make everyone happy. You cant be in with every clique at school. So be you and see what comes from it.
